Understanding Short Selling | by Wall Street Survivor

What is short selling? Join our Fall Trading Contest and win $500 when you practice trading: https://www.wallstreetsurvivor.com/register?utm_source=Youtube&utm_medium=VideoLink&utm_campaign=FallContest Most people think of investing as buying a stock (or other asset) and making money when its price goes up - but it’s also possible to make a profit when a stock price goes down. This process is called short selling (or shorting). Short selling isn’t all peaches and cream. There are opportunities for high returns, but as usual, these come with high risks. The big risk here is that there is no limit to your losses. When you buy a stock, you can only lose the amount that you invested. But when you short, your losses are infinite because there is theoretically no end to how high a stock’s price can rise. Short selling isn’t for everyone. It requires a lot of time and research, and a desire for high risks and high returns. Short selling is primarily used for speculator looking to make a profit when the market goes down or investing looking to hedge their position. Investment Banking Areas Explained: Capital Markets

06:18
Capital markets are one of the most fascinating areas of investment banking. Companies need these services when they are about to go public or want to issue debt sold to the public. When a company wants to raise equity, we talk about ECM, standing for Equity Capital Markets, and when it wants to raise debt, we talk about DCM, standing for Debt Capital Markets. Economic News: Accelerating retail sales, financial markets (over) reaction to Trump

01:22
October retail sales were impressive, gaining +0.8% m/m, and September sales were revised up +0.4% to a strong +1.0% m/m. The back-to-back gains drove the y/y rate up to +4.3%, almost twice as high as the +2.2% recorded in August. After stripping out volatile components, “core” sales, which feed into the GDP calculations, also gained +0.8% m/m to a +4.0% y/y rate. October’s gains were widespread across most categories. Non-store retailers (e-commerce) continued to easily outpace all other categories, gaining 1.5% m/m to a blistering 12.9% y/y rate. The results bode well for holiday sales. Financial markets have had a strong reaction to Donald Trump’s election. The stock market sees Trump’s agenda of tax cuts, increased government spending, and deregulation as positive for economic growth, and as a result has risen sharply. The bond market sees the plans as inflationary, especially considering the proposed trade agenda of imposing steep tariffs on Mexican and Chinese goods. As a result, bond yields have risen sharply while prices have fallen (bond prices and yields move in opposite directions). In both cases financial markets may have over-reacted. Not all of Trump’s plans are going to be implemented, and the ones that are will have uncertain and sometimes conflicting effects

07:33
The movie presents how financial markets reacted after the publication of the US Data. Retail Sales slightly better than expected (1.2% vs 1.1%). We can see that initially EUR/USD drops significantly same as precious metals (Gold, Silver, Palladium), but there is a rebound instantly as well. Dollar is at first stronger to most of other currencies (USDHUF USDCHF). Stock markets go up constantly (S&P 500, Dax, Cac40). A combination of strong employment data and interest rate path comments from federal reserve chairman Jerome Powell pushed the stock market higher, but is it enough to counter the path of destruction of the U.S. economy. Debt and deficits continue to increase along with weakening retail and automobile sales numbers declining. The next economic decline could push taxes again higher as Ocasio Cortez calls for 70% + tax on high earners. What do Salespeople and Traders do in an Investment Bank

03:18
http://www.katsonga.com/girlbanker Get, To Become An Investment Banker (The Book) USA: http://amzn.to/2bb5OFH UK: http://amzn.to/2aIoQAx @GirlBanker: https://twitter.com/#!/GirlBanker The purpose of a capital markets division is to provide a range of financial products to investors and companies. The sales force specializes by product and will be the first point of contact for clients. Any buy or sell orders are passed on from sales to a trader, who executes and manages the risk associated with such a purchase or sale. Many traditionally advice-only investment banks have incorporated capital markets activities to their offering because they wanted to offer a fuller suite of products to their clients. The capital markets tend to be less hierarchical than corporate finance. Why? - Salespeople and traders are given individual revenue targets quite early in their career, possibly within 12 to 24 months of starting out. - It is possible for a junior to earn more money for the firm than someone senior to them so there is limited room for overbearing seniors -- one minute the guy or gal is your analyst, the next they're raking in more money than you. Some view capital markets as more meritocratic than corporate finance. Why? - The primary goal is to earn revenue by trading or selling. It's easy to measure revenue goals and hence reward performers accordingly. - Nonetheless, it's possible to land oneself on a team where the existing sales people or traders won't give you access to the good clients; they keep them for themselves and you have to wait until someone leaves before you can get profitable accounts. http://www.katsonga.com/girlbanker Get, To Become An Investment Banker (The Book) USA: http://amzn.to/2bb5OFH UK: http://amzn.to/2aIoQAx @GirlBanker: https://twitter.com/#!/GirlBanker

Cyber Monday boosts financial markets (28.11.2017)

01:43
Online sales on Cyber Monday have set a new record in the US digital shopping. The global leader in online retailing again revealed a steady advance. Shares of Amazon.com surged over 1% and closed in the green for 8th session in a row. NASDAQ COMPOSITE also jumped more than 1% to trade next to 6,878.50 today. At the same time, Dow Jones Industrial Average grew marginally by 0.1%. The index closed at about 23,600. Meanwhile, big changes are unfolding in the currency market. The US dollar was picking up steam in the Asian trade. The dollar/yen pair is trading near 111.30. Importantly, today the US dollar index is heading for the level of 93.00 following fresh news about developments in Donald Trump’s tax legislation. The US president is due to speak in the Senate later today. Experts say if Donald Trump is able to convince the Republican opposition in the Senate to adopt the tax bill, the US dollar might respond with a steady rally. A hearing is scheduled on Tuesday and a full Senate vote will take place on Thursday. Besides, market participants await a speech by Jerome Powell, a nominee for the Fed’s Chair. They will focus on his comments on inflation in the US. https://www.instaforex.com FX Analytics - https://www.instaforex.com/forex_analytics Forex Calendar - https://www.instaforex.com/forex_calendar Forex TV from InstaForex - https://www.instaforex.com/instaforex_tv Forex charts - https://www.instaforex.com/charts Instant account opening - https://www.instaforex.com/fast_open_live_account Forex Trading Contests - https://www.instaforex.com/forex_contests List of official InstaForex blogs: https://www.facebook.com/instaforex https://www.instagram.com/instaforex/ https://twitter.com/InstaForex https://telegram.me/instaforex

Financial News - Business News - Stock News - Market News - Stock Exchange CLICK HERE➡ ➡ http://FinancialBuzz.com Business News - Financial News - Stock News -- New York Stock Exchange -- Market News 2019 Business News - Financial News - Stock Exchange -- Wall Street -- Market News - New York Stock Exchange 2019 On Monday the ISM non-manufacturing index for December fell 3.1 points to 57.6. Markets were volatile as investors considered trade issues and the U.S. government shutdown. U.S. oil advanced 1.5% to $48.66 a barrel and the energy sector rallied. The Dow Industrials closed 98 points higher, partly on the continued strength of reassurances last week by Federal Reserve Chair Jay Powell that the central bank will remain flexible. On Tuesday the JOLTS job openings report for November fell 243,000 to 6.888 million openings. Officials from both China and the U.S. expressed optimism that a trade agreement can be reached. Bank stocks struggled due to the possibility of reduced rate hikes from the Fed, however, markets overall rose with the Dow Industrials gaining 256 points. On Wednesday the EIA petroleum status report for the week ending January 4th saw crude oil inventory decline 1.7 million barrels. The Federal Reserve released minutes from their previous meeting and it showed some of the members didn’t want to raise interest rates at all due to lack of sufficient inflation pressure. All of them expressed caution for future rate hikes, stating they can “afford to be patient”. A meeting between President Trump and Democratic leadership ended with President Trump tweeting it was a total waste of time. U.S. crude rose 5% to $52.28 a barrel and the Dow Industrials closed 91 points higher. On Thursday jobless claims for the week ending January 5th fell 17,000 to 216,000. Macy’s reported disappointing holiday sales, putting pressure on the retail sector, and American Airlines lowered its revenue growth forecast putting pressure on airlines. Nevertheless, broader markets continued to rally with the Dow Industrials rising for its fifth straight day to close 122 points higher. On Friday the consumer price index for December declined .1%, its first drop in nine months mostly due to lower energy costs. Markets were down at the open over concerns about a slowdown in growth in China as well as the prospect of a prolonged government shutdown. Now let’s take a look at some stocks. Roku Inc. (NASDAQ: ROKU) shares skyrocketed by more than 23% on Monday after releasing preliminary numbers showing streaming hours grew by 68% to 7.3 billion hours and active user accounts were 27 million. Roku’s strong fourth quarter now brings its fiscal 2018 streaming hours up to 24 billion, increasing 61% year over year. The Boeing Company (NYSE: BA) reported delivering a record number of aircraft in 2018. For the fourth quarter, Boeing delivered 238 commercial airplanes, bringing 2018 totals to 806. However, Boeing previously forecast full-year deliveries of 810 to 815 but suppliers have caused shipment delays. Boeing’s stock rose by 3.2% following the announcement. Constellation Brands, Inc. (NYSE: STZ) reported its third quarter results on Wednesday and topped analysts’ estimates. However, shares plunged due to weaker sales in its wine and spirits segment as well as its investment in Canopy Growth backfiring. Constellation earned $2.37 per share on revenue of $1.97 billion. Constellation also said its investment in Canopy will slash 25 cents off its full-year earnings per share outlook. Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. (NASDAQ: BBBY) announced its third quarter results on Wednesday and topped analysts’ earnings estimates, which sent shares soaring by 20%. The company reported earnings per share of 18 cents on revenue of $3.03 billion. Bed Bath & Beyond previously forecast declining profits and earnings, however, the company said it is now ahead and projects its fiscal 2019 earnings per share to remain flat year over year. Macy’s Inc. (NYSE: M) shares crated by 19% on Thursday after the company reported disappointing sales results for the combined months of November and December and cut its 2018 earnings outlook. For the two months, Macy’s reported comparable sales were up 1.1%. Due to the weaker-than-expected holiday sales, Macy’s revised its forecast for fiscal 2018, now expecting net sales to remain flat compared to its previous projection of a 0.3% to 0.7% increase. The retailer forecast diluted earnings per share of $3.95 to $4.00 compared to its previous outlook of $4.10 to $4.30. © 2011 Financial Buzz. All rights reserved.
