Finding funding for your film is incredibly challenging. The investors or sponsors only want you if have the skills and potential of making their investment back with big or at least some returns. Before the Pitch: Screenplay Film's Business Plan Distribution/Marketing Plan Private Investing- This is an investor, investment board or your friend's rich uncle. These investors are looking to earn a return on their investment; breaking even is NOT good in their mind. If they have Exec. Producer experience, listen to their advice. Make your expectations completely clear and make sure they have been completely clear. A mutual understanding of the terms is imperative. Sponsorship- Similar to private money, but instead of a return or dividend, they are looking for marketing, exposure, and branding. What gets complicated is when your film may tread on some controversial topics that don't align with your sponsor. They could pull their funding or sponsorship overall if they feel that their brand is at risk. It sucks but it happens. Funding is bittersweet: Your movie is funded...but you have to be ever-so careful with someone else's money. Scary AF. Do you have a business idea? http://clufflaw.com/preparing-to-talk-with-investors-about-your-business/ Start Transcript: One of the important things to do in an investment relationship is to get it started the right way. I already talked about the importance of having a full and frank discussion with all of the parties that are going to be involved. What are the expectations? What are the potential problems? What are we going to do if these kinds of problems arise? I would actually suggest before you have that conversation, even though it needs to be right up near the beginning of your to-do list, even before that you need to talk to a trusted advisor about what are some of the specific issues that you ought to be discussing with your friends or family so that you can have a full and frank discussion. I have found that one of the real barriers for people in getting going in their business is they don't know what to do to get started. They have this idea for their business and they may have way more than an idea. They may have some processes in place. They may have a tremendous amount of skill. They may have sales that are ready to go. They may have a lot of things in place, but they really don't know how to approach the investors that they're going to need to get the business off the ground. That will actually just kill some deals. Many, many deals stay right there in that stage, the idea stage. It's helpful to go and talk to an attorney and explain what your idea is, what you're trying to accomplish, what you think some of your potential investment capital sources are, how you are going to approach those sources, what are the things you need to discuss with them, what is your agreement going to look like. It makes all the difference in the world when you're going to speak to an investment capital prospect as to whether you're prepared, whether you have your ducks in a row, so to speak. If you show up for the meeting with the big investor and all you've got is an idea and no structure, it's not going to be a very attractive investment opportunity for that investor usually. If, on the other hand, you have a plan that you're ready to execute, that includes an operating agreement for your LLC, something that's going to provide for your investor to get a return of their capital, maybe on a preferred basis to money that you would be receiving from your business. If you've thought those kinds of things out, that eliminates a lot of the noise in the investor's head which will contribute to concern in the investor's mind. There's just a huge benefit to having worked through those kinds of details right at the very beginning of your investment capital raising efforts. Having issues deciding how to split up the equity in your business between your team (co-founder), advisors and potential investors? Due to popular demand, I’ve decided to finally tackle the billion dollar beast. And while it’s not easy to have a conversation about startup equity without putting the faint of heart to sleep, it’s territory that simply can’t be overlooked. Because for any growth-oriented entrepreneur entertaining the idea of handing out equity in their company, the math absolutely matters… And one small misstep can be the difference between accelerated growth or the speed pass to startup hell. So if you’ve ever wondered what a healthy equity breakdown looks like for all key stakeholders (founders, advisors, investors and team members)... … then give this new video a quick spin. As you can see, used appropriately, equity can be an amazing way to incentivize team members and attract key advisors and investors. Like I did with Uber’s Travis Kalanick But if you don’t enter the conversation with clear knowledge of the right benchmarks to shoot for… … then you’re setting yourself up to either give too much away or lose talent and investors to other startups playing a much sharper numbers game. So get your numbers right. Make the right offers. And then step up to the plate and use equity for the growth accelerant it is. To splitting the pie… (and watching it grow), – Dan Don't forget to share this entrepreneurial advice with your friends, so they can learn too: https://youtu.be/hWA1b8owinc ===================== ABOUT DAN MARTELL ===================== “You can only keep what you give away.” That’s the mantra that’s shaped Dan Martell from a struggling 20-something business owner in the Canadian Maritimes (which is waaay out east) to a successful startup founder who’s raised more than $3 million in venture funding and exited not one... not two... but three tech businesses: Clarity.fm, Spheric and Flowtown. You can only keep what you give away. That philosophy has led Dan to invest in 33+ early stage startups such as Udemy, Intercom, Unbounce and Foodspotting. It’s also helped him shape the future of Hootsuite as an advisor to the social media tour de force. An activator, a tech geek, an adrenaline junkie and, yes, a romantic (ask his wife Renee), Dan has recently turned his attention to teaching startups a fundamental, little-discussed lesson that directly impacts their growth: how to scale. You’ll find not only incredible insights in every moment of every talk Dan gives - but also highly actionable takeaways that will propel your business forward. Because Dan gives freely of all that he knows. After all, you can only keep what you give away. Check out my eCourses with worksheets here: https://nathangold.teachable.com/ This video will show you how to pitch to investors in under 2 minutes without the aid of any slides. More videos and coaching are available here: http://www.nathangold.com/ When you are given the opportunity to pitch your company and all you have is a microphone and a panel of investors waiting for you to pitch, you need to be well scripted and rehearsed for the performance. Without a script indelibly inscribed in your brain, you will usually run over on time, not cover everything you wanted to talk about, or worse, completely lose your way. This cannot and should not be an extemporaneous talk where you condense your 10 minute presentation into 2 minutes. The real purpose of the 2 minute pitch is to convince an investor to ask you questions that will ultimately lead to one of two outcomes. Either they will like you enough to continue talking with you or they can become a resource for you to leverage at some time in the future. Recently, at the VCTaskforce in Palo Alto, California, 10 companies were given 2 minutes to pitch to a panel of angel investors. These were who's who in Silicon Valley, such as Tom Cervantez co-founder of the Harvard Angels, Raffy Chatav from Silicom Ventures, John Ryan from Band of Angels, and Paul Twombly from Keiretsu Forum. You should see what these people give as feedback to people who obviously have not really prepared for the event. Speaking of preparing, that is exactly what this video is all about. You will learn how to have a great opening that will capture the attention of the listener. Following that, you'll be able to clearly articulate the value of your business by answering 6 questions on the minds of your investors. After watching this video, you will clearly understand and know how NOT to sound the S.A.M.E. as other presenters. And, you'll be able to effectively use the Columbo Close, a powerful attention-getting tool, as the last words the investor will hear from you. The information contained in this video is the result of the last 6 years of delivering workshops and coaching real people who are raising capital. This video on the business pitch is one part of my 5-hour course on starting a business: https://www.udemy.com/how-to-start-a-business-go-from-business-idea-to-a-business/?couponCode=ten_youtube How to pitch your business ideas to investors or when selling: tutorial with a template and examples! For more business help like this tutorial on how to pitch your business ideas to investors, try my mobile apps for business: http://www.problemio.com In this tutorial I explain how to pitch your business ideas to investors, potential business partners, or when selling your products I also explain why it is so important to master your business pitch (sometimes called the elevator pitch). Many entrepreneurs don't immediately realize it, but they pitch their business every day. Every time they talk to a potential customer, or a potential investor or business partner, they have to explain their business. So it is very important to create a great business pitch that you can deliver at any time and wow people. Here is the full blog post on how to pitch your business: http://www.problemio.com/business/business_pitch.php In this video I explain how you can create your business pitch. I use the business pitch template made famous by Adeo Ressi who is the founder of the founders institute. Your business pitch is extremely important because it is something you use multiple times a day, every day. Every time someone asks you what you do, or what your business is, or you meet potential clients, or partners, or anyone else, you end up pitching your business to them. And most first-time entrepreneurs don't quite realize the importance of learning how to pitch their business. It isn't that obvious that the business pitch is used so often. But it is. Most start-up incubators begin by having their entrepreneurs perfect the business pitch. And I encourage you to practice your business pitch and end up with a great one. Here is Adeo's template: http://techcrunch.com/2010/11/03/madlibs-pitch-adeo-ressi-founder-institute/ And here is the link to Founder's institute: http://fi.co/ Just a note: I am NOT affiliated with Adeo or his business in any way, but I think this is a great template and that is why I am using it to explain how to pitch your business in this video. If you use this template to learn to pitch your business, please feel welcome to write your business pitch in the comments and I will try to give you feedback on your pitch it you would like that. Additionally, I have a number of mobile apps made to help you learn how start your business. This is Innovate UK’s 2nd installment of the essential selection business tips and advice series. This video covers tips on pitching for investment. Whether a start-up, small business or SME make sure you watch the video and subscribe to our channel for more funding advice. The video outlines and explains the most important factors for a business when trying to pitch to investors and includes actionable advice supported by comments from industry experts and investors. The tips are as follows: 1) Target the right investor for you Starting and running a business takes time and resources. It’s vital you are organised and prioritise what needs to be done. In the case of funding, approaching every potential investor you connect with wastes time. Most start-ups have to pitch to many investors before securing the funds they need. You don’t want to be wasting time on someone whose investment isn’t relevant. 2) Prepare an engaging deck You should have a high quality presentation, based on a good business plan and detailed financial projections. We recommend no more than 8-10 slides and it’s a good idea to accompany it with a 2-3 page summary. Your proposal should be visually stimulating; use charts and images to bring your presentation to life and make sure it’s not too wordy. 3) Sell the upside…And yourself Your presentation will tell the story, but you still have work to do. Focus on selling the quick exit or potential returns and getting people excited about your ability to make it happen. Investors are looking for business opportunities that are disruptive, scalable, have huge benefits and potential. It’s your job to make them believe you can deliver. 4) Follow up after your pitch Immediately follow-up on promised actions after the pitch – including sending any relevant documents. Update potential investors on your progress and let them know about any events or big wins. You can also keep in touch using social media such as posting updates on LinkedIn Check out the Essential guide to securing funding here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fS3An... New Delhi, Mar 21 (ANI): Having a bewildering diverse culture and the lushness of its landscape, the range of communities and geographical and ecological diversity makes India’s northeast region quite different from other parts of the subcontinent. To bring the northeast region in the centre stage and transform the region’s potentials into a flourishing business hub in the South East Asia countries, Indian Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion and Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India organized the eleventh edition of NE Business Summit at Shangri-La’s Eros hotel in New Delhi. The two day long summit brought industrialists, businessmen, corporate honchos and potential investors from across the country under one platform and discussed various areas under the theme ‘Make in North East’. Addressing at the summit, Minister of DoNER Dr. Jitendra Singh says that instead of NE region comes closer to the rest of the country, the country should come closer towards the northeast region as there are plenty of things ought to learn about the region. The two-day event is an initiative to facilitate investment, highlight strengths of the northeast region and business opportunities which the northeast region has to offer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ☛ Visit our Official website: http://www.aninews.in/ ☛ Subscribe to our Youtube Channel - https://goo.gl/E7Fprx Enjoy and stay connected with us!! ☛ Like us: https://www.facebook.com/ANINEWS.IN ☛Follow us : https://twitter.com/ani_news ☛ Circle us : https://goo.gl/QN5kXy
