How To Get Started With Sky Golems - Quick Engineering Guide (1-600)

06:12
Hello! In this video I'm showing you how I've gotten Engineering to level 600 on all of my toons. It's a rather fast paced guide so you might have to pause at times to follow the steps! I'm aware that there is slightly cheaper ways to level it, but that's alot more effort than this already is, and it only saves a few hundred gold at most. =) If you want to level Engineering even faster, then you can make Goblin Gliders from level 1 - 600. All you need is the materials and an Arclight Spanner. Thank you for watching!

"Lessons Learned from the International Workshop on Release Engineering," Bram Adams

59:36
The release engineering process brings high quality code changes from a developer's workspace to the end user, encompassing (amongst others) the integration of code changes, continuous building/testing of such changes (CI), setup of deployment environments, deployment and release. Recent practices of continuous delivery, which bring changes to the end user in the order of days or hours rather than years, have convinced many companies to invest in their release engineering pipeline and teams. However, what exactly should these companies invest in? Which continuous delivery strategies work, and which ones did not (and why)? Do only large companies benefit? These and other questions were targeted by the past three editions of the International Workshop on Release Engineering (RELENG) and the 1st IEEE Software Special Issue on Release Engineering. This webinar will revisit the major insights and discussion points of RELENG, aiming to provide a starting point for companies to decide on their future release engineering strategy. Bram Adams, Polytechnique Montréal Bram Adams is an assistant professor at Polytechnique Montréal (Canada), where he heads the MCIS lab on Maintenance, Construction and Intelligence of Software. He obtained his PhD at the GH-SEL lab at Ghent University (Belgium), and was an adjunct assistant professor in the Software Analysis and Intelligence Lab at Queen's University (Canada). Great Trinity Forest Clearcutting and Surface Mining Trinity Forest Golf Course Dallas Texas

02:22
Surface mining operation 20 acres in size in the Great Trinity Forest Dallas, Texas September 19, 2014. Public park land was stripped of over 300 trees for a borrow pit to build a golf course. Prior to being destroyed, the land was a mix of virgin post oak savannah, native prairie and rare wet prairie habitat. Never plowed or cultivated. A rare gem of Texas ecosystem. This was destroyed purely for the free dirt underneath. It was a decision we have been told based on money. The clearing and mining action at the time was not properly zoned and lacked the permits. This activity allowed the surface mining to go unnoticed by the public which was unaware that their park land was being clearcut and mined by a private developer. Corps of Engineers was not properly notified of the clearcutting as it sits in a floodplain. TCEQ complaint filed against those responsible. One of the worst examples of brown engineering and poor environmental stewardship in Dallas history. In the video, a City of Dallas engineer explains the site over the drone of excavation trucks. There are no working plans at this time to remediate the borrow pit. It will be a permanent hole in the landscape here forever.

NOTE FROM TED: We've flagged this talk, which was filmed at a TEDx event, because it appears to fall outside TEDx's curatorial guidelines. As the speaker states in the opening of their talk, this is their own personal theory of health. Please do not look to this talk for medical advice. TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: http://storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/tedx_content_guidelines.pdf We know that water conducts electricity in our bodies. But would you like to see how? What if you learned about a little something extra that could add a lot more zap to your zip? Dr. Seneff has all the data that you need. A committed voice for sanity in science, Dr. Seneff has authored over two dozen peer-reviewed journal papers over the past few years about the connection between toxic chemicals and micro nutrient deficiencies in health and disease, with a focus on the dangers of Roundup (glyphosate) and the importance of sulfur. For more than three decades, her research interests have been at the intersection of biology and computation: developing a computational model for the human auditory system, understanding human language so as to develop algorithms and systems for human computer interactions, and applying natural language processing (NLP) techniques to gene predictions. Her current work focuses on the relationship between health and nutrition. Dr. Seneff is a Senior Research Scientist at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory in Cambridge, MA. She has four degrees from MIT including a B.S. in biology and a PhD in electrical engineering and computer science. The Mining Foundation of the Southwest is pleased to recognize Sean D. Dessureault as a 2013 recipient of the Medal of Merit for induction into the American Mining Hall of Fame. A graduate of McGill University, Sean D. Dessureault earned his Masters and PhD from the University of British Columbia with a focus on advanced mine technology and management while working in various roles throughout surface and underground Canadian mines. Dessureault was working at INCO-West Mines Complex in Ontario, Canada when he received an unexpected offer from the University of Arizona. Aside from his wife's desire to enjoy the more temperate climate, Dessureault was attracted to Arizona for its rich mining history and resources as well as the University recruiters' encouragement to continue his entrepreneurial pursuit. In 2002, Dessureault joined the University of Arizona and is now a tenured Associate Professor in the Mining and Geological Engineering Department. Since arriving at Arizona, Dessureault has simultaneously followed his passion in research and commercial enterprises. Recruited to modernize the mining engineering curriculum, Dessureault has successfully developed projects resulting Sean Dessureault in over $4.5 million in rewarded research funds; created an integrated remote operations center lab that monitors mines throughout the United States; introduced the first engineering sustainable development course in the curriculum; modernized undergraduate and graduate studies to include the latest technology and established the UA Engineers Without Border (EWB) student chapter. The establishment of the EWB chapter enables impoverished communities without resources to receive engineering services such as water projects in Africa. Dessureault's success in the lab also translates to his enterprising spirit since almost all the research he oversees begins as a business activity. He currently is active with several mining related businesses and is the Founder and CEO of Mining Information Systems and Operations Management Consulting Services Inc. (MISOM) leading a team of experienced IT and mining engineers in designing, deploying and supporting Data Warehousing and Business/Operational Intelligence Systems worldwide including tablet apps that replace paper or act as a light fleet management system. In addition to MISOM, in 2011, Dessureault spearheaded Stakeholder Listening & Analysis providing listening analysis and engagement solutions for mineral and other development projects focused on the permitting processes. Dessureault is a sought after speaker, columnist and panelist on the topics of technology and automation. Further, he has also authored and co-authored 25 journal publications to date and was the recipient of many awards including the SAP Canadian Information Productivity Award; the Best Graduate Dissertation Research Project in 2001; and the Faculty Award in 2006 for significant research and innovations.

Canary used for testing for carbon monoxide 1926 US Bureau of Mines

00:52
In the early part of the 20th century, miners in Great Britain and the United States took caged canaries into coalmines in order to provide warning of the presence of toxic gases including carbon monoxide and methane. Canaries would visibly show distress and sway on their perches in the presence low concentrations of carbon monoxide before toppling over. The concept of the "canary in the coal mine" giving warning of a human health hazard is based on several principles. First, canaries were found to be more sensitive than both humans and other animals such as mice to the toxic effects of carbon monoxide. Second, the birds were allowed to share the same air exposures as the humans. Third, the occurrence of carbon monoxide poisoning in a bird was quite recognizable to the miners, since sick birds would tend to fall off of their perches and appear visibly ill. An article appearing in a 1914 issue of the Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry provides a simple description of the concept (Burrell G, Seibert F. Experiments with small animals and carbon monoxide. Jl Indust Eng Chem. 1914;6:241--244.): Birds and mice may be used to detect carbon monoxide, because they are much more sensitive to the poisonous action of the gas than are men. Experiments by the Bureau of Mines show that canaries should be used in preference to mice, sparrows, or pigeons, because canaries are more sensitive to the gas. Rabbits, chickens, guinea pigs, or dogs, although useful for exploration work in mines, should be used only when birds or mice are unobtainable, and then, cautiously, because of their greater resistance to carbon monoxide poisoning. . . . Breathing apparatus must be used where birds show signs of distress, and, for this reason, birds are of great value in enabling rescue parties to use breathing apparatus to best advantage. For more on the use of animals as sensitive indicators of environmental hazards, providing an early warning system for public health, read the 2011Public Health Report - Animal Sentinels for Environmental and Public Health (http://www.publichealthreports.org/issueopen.cfm?articleID=2645 ) by John S. Reif, DVM, MSc, at Colorado State University, Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences. This is clipped from the 1926 film by the US Bureau of Mines titles, Oxygen Breathing Apparatus. The film shows the kinds of breathing apparatus used in mine rescues and explains their various parts. A mine rescue team explores a mine, testing for low oxygen content and carbon monoxide. The entire film is posted to my channel. This US Bureau of Mines film and many others are available at the US National Archive in College Park, Maryland.
