Can a company operate without HR?

01:00:26
Companies say No to Having an HR Department - A recent Wall Street Journal article described how some companies are eliminating their HR function. Well here is a snippet on why they intent to ditch HR function.  'Companies seeking flat management structures and more accountability for employees are frequently taking aim at human resources. Executives say the traditional HR department—which claims dominion over everything from hiring and firing to maintaining workplace diversity—stifles innovation and bogs down businesses with inefficient policies and processes. At the same time, a booming HR software industry has made it easier than ever to automate or outsource personnel-related functions such as payroll and benefits administration.' Can we replace that human element with automation? or Can HR function be fully outsourced? When so many of the critical and sensitive tasks related to developing and retaining employees, handling employee relations and compliance are left exclusively in the hands of HR, can a company operate without HR ? Join us while India HR LIVE sets the stage for eminent speakers, HR thought leaders and Global guests for a LIVE panel discussion on Can a company operate without HR? on May 6th, Tuesday at 8pm IST / 9.30 am CST /10.30 am EST. Human Resource Management in the Public and Privet Sector - Age Old Challenges in Modern Times

54:28
Prof. Roddrick Colvin's presentation on ancient and contemporary applications of human resource management theory. Scholars disagree on whether or not human resource management differs between the private and the public sectors, but it is clear that some of the essential principles of the field are remarkably constant. Using the Egyptian pyramids, the Great Wall of China, and the international space station as examples, Prof. Colvin explains how and why human resource management at its core has remained the same for 4,000 years. Roddrick Colvin is an Associate Professor of Public Administration at John Jay College of Criminal Justice at the City University of New York (CUNY). He has published numerous articles on employment policy, minority rights, hate crimes, and international human rights policies in peer-reviewed journals, including the International Journal of Public Administration and the Journal of Public Management and Social Policy. At CUNY, Prof. Colvin currently teaches courses in public administration, human resource management, and policy analysis. He has also served on the board of the New York State Political Science Association and is a member of the American Political Science Association. Prof. Colvin holds an MPA in Public Administration from Seattle University and a PhD in Public Administration from the State University of New York in Albany. Pr. Colvin is in Tbilisi as a part of the EWMI G-PAC Master's in Public Administration (MPA) program, which is established in cooperation with the Ilia State University and the Columbia University. EWMI G-PAC is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by East-West Management Institute (EWMI). CSR and Sustainability Get Closer Scrutiny in New Academic Research - CSR Minute

01:56
CSR sometimes has the unintended effect of triggering irresponsible behavior. That's the surprising finding from a recent study by the London Business School and the University of California, Riverside. It reports that after engaging in socially responsible behaviors, some companies are more likely to act unethically in the future, because their corporate leaders feel that they've accumulated "moral credits" by doing good deeds. That's one of the unexpected conclusions in a special section of articles published in the Winter issue of Personnel Psychology. The online research journal notes that few studies of CSR and sustainability have been done in the fields of human resources and organizational behavior. So its Winter issue presents articles that focus in-depth research on CSR in the HR and OB areas. The reason for such focus is clear. The majority of scholarly research has dealt with the macro level of analysis, addressing regulatory elements such as laws and standards, factors shaped by society, consumers, and stakeholders, and, more recently, the relationship between CSR and financial performance. To achieve a more comprehensive understanding of CSR, researchers are incorporating HR/OB theories and empirical methods, what is called the micro foundations of CSR. Personnel Psychology's Winter issue brings together research into both micro- and macro-level processes relevant to CSR and its execution. Such increasing attention by academics should yield more, better answers to the important questions being asked about CSR and sustainability. I'm John Howell for 3BL Media. What is EMPLOYER BRANDING? What does EMPLOYER BRANDING mean? EMPLOYER BRANDING meaning & explanation

What is EMPLOYER BRANDING? What does EMPLOYER BRANDING mean? EMPLOYER BRANDING meaning - EMPLOYER BRANDING definition - EMPLOYER BRANDING explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ Employer brand is the term commonly used to describe an organization's reputation as an employer, and its value proposition to its employees, as opposed to its more general corporate brand reputation and value proposition to customers. The term was first used in the early 1990s, and has since become widely adopted by the global management community. Minchington describes your employer brand as "the image of your organisation as a 'great place to work' in the mind of current employees and key stakeholders in the external market (active and passive candidates, clients, customers and other key stakeholders). The art and science of employer branding is therefore concerned with the attraction, engagement and retention initiatives targeted at enhancing your company's employer brand." Just as a customer brand proposition is used to define a product or service offer, an employee value proposition or EVP is used to define an organisation's employment offer. Likewise the marketing disciplines associated with branding and brand management have been increasingly applied by the human resources and talent management community to attract, engage and retain talented candidates and employees, in the same way that marketing applies such tools to attracting and retaining clients, customers and consumers. The term "employer brand" was first publicly introduced to a management audience in 1990, and defined by Simon Barrow, chairman of People in Business, and Tim Ambler, Senior Fellow of London Business School, in the Journal of Brand Management in December 1996. This academic paper was the first published attempt to "test the application of brand management techniques to human resource management". Within this paper, Simon Barrow and Tim Ambler defined the employer brand as "the package of functional, economic and psychological benefits provided by employment, and identified with the employing company". By 2001, of 138 leading companies surveyed by the Conference Board in North America, 40% claimed to be actively engaged in some form of employer branding activity. In 2003, an employer brand survey conducted by the Economist among a global panel of readers revealed a 61% level of awareness of the term "employer brand" among HR professionals and 41% among non-HR professionals. The first book on the subject was published in 2005, and the second in 2006. In 2008, Jackie Orme, the Director General of the UK Chartered Institute of Personnel Directors confirmed the growing status of the discipline in her opening address to the CIPD annual conference, with the observation that: "When I started out in the profession, nobody talked about employer branding. Now it's absolutely integral to business strategy—resonating well beyond the doors of the HR department". Similar recognition of the growing importance of employer brand thinking and practice has also been recently in evidence in the USA, Australia, Asia, and Europe, with the publication of numerous books on the subject. Employer brand management expands the scope of this brand intervention beyond communication to incorporate every aspect of the employment experience, and the people management processes and practices (often referred to as "touch-points") that shape the perceptions of existing and prospective employees. In other words, employer brand management addresses the reality of the employment experience and not simply its presentation. By doing so it supports both external recruitment of the right kind of talent sought by an organisation to achieve its goals, and the subsequent desire for effective employee engagement and employee retention.

What is PUBLIC HEALTH JOURNAL? What does PUBLIC HEALTH JOURNAL mean? PUBLIC HEALTH JOURNAL meaning - PUBLIC HEALTH JOURNAL definition - PUBLIC HEALTH JOURNAL explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ A public health journal is a scientific journal devoted to the field of public health, including epidemiology, biostatistics, and health care (including medicine, nursing and related fields). Public health journals, like most scientific journals, are peer-reviewed. Public health journals are commonly published by health organizations and societies, such as the Bulletin of the World Health Organization or the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health (published by the British Medical Association). Many others are published by a handful of large publishing corporations that includes Elsevier, Wolters Kluwer, Wiley-Blackwell, Springer Science+Business Media, and Informa, each of which has many imprints (which are brands named after former independent publishers that were merged or acquired). Many societies partner with such corporations to handle the work of producing their journals. The increase in public health research in recent decades has seen a rapid increase in the number of articles and journals. As such, many public health journals have emerged with a specialized focus, such as in the area of policy (e.g. Journal of Public Health Policy), a specific region or country of the world (e.g. Asia-Pacific Journal of Public Health, Pan American Journal of Public Health or Eastern Mediterranean Health Journal), a specific intervention/practice area (e.g. Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention), or other particular focus (e.g. Human Resources for Health).
