Excel Shortcuts Investment Banking: Quick Tips

10:11
You’ll get a quick, but very powerful, tip on how to optimize your Excel setup with the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) and custom shortcuts in this tutorial. These tips will save you a ton of time when creating valuations, organizing data, and doing any formatting exercise. http://breakingintowallstreet.com/ "Financial Modeling Training And Career Resources For Aspiring Investment Bankers" Shortcuts Introduced: These are all BUILT-IN shortcuts: Alt, T, O: Options Menu Alt, H, FC: Font Color Alt, H, FS: Font Size Alt, H, H: Fill Color Alt, H, A, C: Center Alt, H, B: Borders Alt, H, O, I: AutoFit Column Width Alt, H, O, W: Column Width Alt, H, 0: Increase Decimal Places Alt, H, 9: Decrease Decimal Places These are the NEW shortcuts you can create via the Quick Access Toolbar: Alt, 1: Font Color Alt, 2: Font Size Alt, 3: Fill Color Alt, 4: Center Alt, 5: Borders Alt, 6: AutoFit Column Width Alt, 7: Column Width Alt, 8: Increase Decimal Places Alt, 9: Decrease Decimal Places Lesson Outline: Many Excel shortcuts that you use repeatedly when creating valuations, models and when formatting data are cumbersome to enter. Something as simple as changing the font color takes 4 keystrokes – Alt, H, F, C – if you use the built-in method for it. Other common commands such as alignment, fill colors, borders, and column widths also take 3-4 keystrokes. A more efficient alternative is to set up the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) so that you can access the most common commands with shortcuts like Alt, 1 instead. You can either import our file (see the link below under RESOURCES) or go to the Options menu (Alt, T, O) and then the Quick Access Toolbar tab, and create the menu yourself. We recommend setting “Font Color” in position #1, followed by Font Size, Fill Color, Center, Borders, AutoFit Column Width, Column Width, and Increase and Decrease Decimal places. These are some of the most frequently used commands in Excel, and you’ll save a ton of time with the new, shorter versions. A command like AutoFit Column Width that used to take 4 keystrokes now takes only 2 (Alt, 6) with this approach. You might realize 30-40% time savings when working in Excel if you use this full set of shortcuts. They’re especially useful for formatting and analyzing data and doing the initial setup in financial models. Dr Jessica Stauth: Portfolio and Risk Analytics in Python with pyfolio

36:22
PyData NYC 2015 Pyfolio is a recent open source library developed by Quantopian to support common financial analyses and plots of portfolio allocations over time. Pyfolio is a tear sheet that consists of various individual plots that provide a comprehensive image of the performance of a trading algorithm and features advanced statistical analyses using Bayesian modeling. (http://quantopian.github.io/pyfolio/). Python is quickly establishing itself as the lingua franca for quantitative finance. The rich stack of open source tools like Pandas, the Jupyter notebook, and Seaborn, provide quants with a rich and powerful tool belt to analyze financial data. While useful for Quantitative Finance, these general purpose libraries lack support for common financial analyses like the computation of certain risk factors (Sharpe, Fama-French), or plots of portfolio allocations over time. Pyfolio is a recent open source tool developed by Quantopian to fill this gap. At the core of pyfolio is a so-called tear sheet that consists of various individual plots that provide a comprehensive image of the performance of a trading algorithm/portfolio. In addition, the library features advanced statistical analyses using Bayesian modeling. The software can be used stand-alone, w**ith our open-source backtesting library Zipline and is available on the Quantopian platform. This talk will be a tutorial of how to get the most out of this library (http://quantopian.github.io/pyfolio/). Predicting Stock Price Mathematically

11:33
There are two prices that are critical for any investor to know: the current price of the investment he or she owns, or plans to own, and its future selling price. Despite this, investors are constantly reviewing past pricing history and using it to influence their future investment decisions. Some investors won't buy a stock or index that has risen too sharply, because they assume that it's due for a correction, while other investors avoid a falling stock, because they fear that it will continue to deteriorate. http://www.garguniversity.com Check out Ebook "Mind Math" from Dr. Garg https://www.amazon.com/MIND-MATH-Learn-Math-Fun-ebook/dp/B017QEIF18

The 4 Most Important Financial Metrics

07:57
Financial metrics are the key numbers that you can focus on in financial statements. There are three financial statements, the balance sheet, the income statement and the cash flow that we like to look at to find important metrics. http://bit.ly/2xOCmRl Were going to look at some of the most important financial metrics that you as investors can use to evaluate a company. The first important number we look at on the balance sheet is liquidity. Can the company you’re looking at really cover everything that they need to cover in the next year? Or have they somehow overloaded themselves with short term debt and obligations that they could really run out of cash in the next year? In order to evaluate this, we want to look at the current ratio. Essentially it is a measure of working capital. It compares the current assets, which are assets that can be turned into cash in the next year, with current liabilities, which are obligations that have to be paid in the next year. What you want to look for when evaluating a company is a 2:1 ratio of liquidity to debt. Some companies are very well run that have a lower ratios than that, because they are controlling their cash very well, or they are in an industry that isn’t growing fast so they don’t need as much liquidity. These companies work their capital down so they don’t need as much cash on hand all the time and they can give that money to their shareholders. You will know that these companies are very well run because, they are really big companies. Most companies, particularly smaller companies need at least a 2:1 ratio between current assets and current liabilities. That’s a great measure of liquidity. We call that the liquidity metric. Jensen's alpha definition for investment modeling

04:31
The definition, visualization and demonstration of a calculation of the Jensen's alpha in Excel. We discuss the two types of performance analysis: returns-based and holdings-based. For investment and financial modeling of stocks and portfolios. We discuss the use of the =AVERAGE function for returns and =STDEV.P for standard deviation, plus =INTERCEPT for the alpha measure. https://factorpad.com/fin/glossary/jensens-alpha.html Please note, here we use the method to source Jensen's Alpha from the regression. Many times the regression outputs are a given in the problem. If inputs are given, you can isolate the alpha term from the CAPM formula: Jensen's Alpha = (Portfolio Return - Risk Free) - Portfolio Beta * (Market Return - Risk Free) Topics covered in our investment glossary: Excel tutorial, Python examples, portfolio theory, portfolio return, portfolio risk, correlation, regression, linear algebra, alpha signal, risk models, performance attribution. Return on Investment Through Model-Based Systems Engineering Using CORE™

01:01:04
Too often we see our purchase of tools and adoption of methodologies as part of the expense of executing a project. In reality, our tools and methods are an investment in our ultimate success. Along the path to that success we can measure the return on that investment. As vendors and advocates for our CORE tool we are regularly asked for measures of that return. In this webinar we will present the results of our research into the question of the Return On Investment (ROI) for CORE and GENESYS. In doing this research we have been very careful not to overstate the return. Where there were assumptions and choices to be made we have selected the most consrvative path in each instance. The result is a balanced picture of the ROI for CORE and GENESYS. Our VP of Professional Services, Zane Scott, will present the research and our conclusions. This webinar will provide a grounding for making purchase decisions or justifying the continued use of the tool. We are sure you will find it both interesting and helpful.

Making Sense of Economic Modeling Tools: Attracting Foreign Investment and Promotin

53:29
In a fiscal environment with much competition for limited state resources, state leaders need the ability to make data-driven policy decisions more than ever before. Increasingly, state leaders are using economic analysis software and data systems to predict economic impacts. Users have used one of those programs, IMPLAN, to estimate the direct, indirect, induced and total impacts of foreign direct investment to their state’s economy including the number of jobs supported, labor income, total value added and tax revenue. In this eCademy, presented by the State International Development Organizations, speakers from IMPLAN discuss how economic modeling software can help policymakers better understand the importance of international trade to their state and guide decisions on economic development initiatives, infrastructure and special event investment.

Basic Monte Carlo Simulation of a Stock Portfolio in Excel

11:30
https://alphabench.com/data/monte-carlo-simulation-tutorial.html Demonstration of a simple Monte Carlo simulation technique or Monte Carlo method that utilizes the Excel Data Table feature to replicate iterations. This tutorial models annual investments in an S&P 500-like environment. No add-ins are used; 100% pure Excel. Monte Carlo simulation in Excel typically makes use of add-in software for Excel like Palisades Decision Suite or Oracle's Crystal Ball, but we can do a reasonable job modeling Monte Carlo Simulation with Excel, using just Excel. Monte Carlo Simulation is one of the most highly used and important numerical techniques used in finance. A dynamic histogram can be added to further characterize a return profile. Using a Return on Investment Model for Optimum Program Management

41:48
Visit MFOA's website at http://www.mfoa.on.ca Or subscribe to MFOA's YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=MFOAOntario Topic Outline: Making financially sound decisions in order to give tax payers the best value for their dollar is very important both fiscally and politically. Using a return on investment model to measure the performance of a project, prior to diving into the investment, would be very beneficial in deciding whether the timing for the project is right and whether or not it is a good investment. If the results are not acceptable, the model can be used as a tool to consider what factors would need to be in place for a favourable outcome. This webinar will give an overview of The City of Thunder Bay's experience developing and applying a comprehensive financial ROI model to identify the tipping point where it would be cost advantageous to retrofit / replace existing HPS street lights with new LED lights. Who Should Attend: Finance Managers, Treasurers, CFOs and other team members involved in decision making of major financial investments in your municipality. What you will Learn: • Financial drivers to consider when developing an ROI model • Identify and quantify operating and capital savings/costs • Consideration of the return on investment percentage as well as the number of years for payback on the investment • Impacts of funding sources About Your Speaker: Michelle Labate is a recent graduate of the Municipal Finance Officers' Association Internship program. Michelle will be sharing her experience and involvement in the creation and use of a return on investment model to measure the performance of the possible investment of LED street lighting at The City of Thunder Bay.

In particular, he will describe how uncertainty features strongly in the structure and pricing of pensions - and how statisticians are well-placed to tame it. Aswath Damodaran: "Valuation: Four Lessons to Take Away" | Talks at Google

01:01:30
The tools and practice of valuation is intimidating to most laymen, who assume that they do not have the skills and the capability to value companies. In this talk, I propose to lay out four simple propositions about valuation. The first is that valuation is not an extension of accounting, insofar as it is not about recording the past but forecasting the future. The second is that valuation is not just modeling, where people put numbers into Excel spreadsheets and pump out values. A good valuation requires a narrative that binds the numbers together. The third is that valuing an asset or business is very different from pricing that asset or business, a difference that is often blurred in practice. The fourth is that luck plays a disproportionate role in whether you make money off your valuations. Put differently, you can do everything right and still walk away with nothing or worse at the end. About the Author I view myself, first and foremost, as a teacher. I do teach valuation and corporate finance not only to MBAs at Stern but to anyone who will listen (on iTunes U, online and on YouTube). I love to write books, teaching material and blog posts. After 30 years of teaching finance, I still find it fascinating as an interplay of economics, psychology and number crunching.

411: Swanest - The FinTech Startup With Intelligent Investment Tools

18:50
Swanest is a financial technology start-up that develops intelligent investment tools to help investors to build, analyse and manage portfolios in a simple way. The company also introduced a brand-new online investment tool (Investment Assistant), based on algorithms and designed to help private investors make better decisions when investing in stocks, ETFs or mutual funds. “Traditional robo-advisors sell pre-made model portfolios, which is very similar to what financial advisors or banks do. However, investors often want to build their very own investment strategies. This ability to build, analyze and manage portfolios, consisting of any stocks, ETFs or funds, is what makes us unique.” -  Silvan Schumacher The four founders started in late 2014 with the initial goal to launch a robo-advisor in Europe so I invited Silvan Schumacher, CEO of Swanest onto the show to find out more.

The Tools of Monetary Policy

16:30
This video lesson graphically presents the three tools Central Banks have at their disposal for managing the level of aggregate demand in the economy. Through increasing or decreasing the money supply, a central bank has influence over the interest rates in a nation, and therefore over the level of investment and consumption among firms and households. To accomplish this, three tools are employed: The reserve requirement, the open market purchase or sale of government bonds, and the discount rate. This lesson illustrates these three tools and explains the relative importance of each to monetary policy makers.
