How is the Job Interview in Germany? (for software developers)

31:59
Doing a series of questions that you have, if you are trying to find a job as a developer in Germany. This video discusses the job interview process in Germany and it is focused toward software developer. Like 90% of the information still applies for most jobs. --------------------------------------------- Below is the outline and main ideas: So the hiring process has reached the stage where you are getting an email / call asking for an interview. Interview by Phone / Skype -------------------------------------------- - Distance or large number of applicants, so it is very possible that the HR person will first request an interview from you by phone or Skype. Tend to be shorter that on-site interviews - This is where, for some companies, the pipeline is narrowing. - Make sure you are in a quiet place at that time and that your internet connection is working (test Skype in advance with the free test call to make sure it works as expected). Turn on the webcam, if you feel comfortable. On site ------------ - Appointment confirmation by email, including attendees ( Google them) - Usually management, human resources, somebody from the department / team (2-3 persons usually) - Depends on the company, dress code. Dress casually, important that you feel good. Maybe ask during the phone call... - Be there on time, calculate enough time for getting there, finding the place etc. Don’t be too early either (that will be weird), but like 5 minutes before the start, you should be at the reception. This is the German punctuality. If you are on time, you are already late #me-exaggerating - Beginning is a bit of chit-chat… get a glass of water. - Make a pleasant atmosphere, not too serious but not too funny. BE PREPARED ------------------------- - read the job description, they are not always very accurate Get familiar with the company, business model, technologies, terms - I have never got stupid questions, but be prepared (see http://karrierebibel.de/vorstellungsgesprach-fragen/) - Bring your own questions (IMPORTANT!) - Ask about how they work, projects, challenges, how big is the team how does a typical day look like, whatever interest you. - Answer: why did you apply for this job / company - Any pet projects you like to tell about? Parts of the interiview ------------------------------------ I. Introduction to the company… bla bla II. Talk about yourself… Germans are very direct people, so when asked something, try getting to the point. Be prepared to explain what you have done in the past, how complex where the projects, what was your role, tools used, skills. Double down on the skills they are looking for, mention but do not annoy with things they do not need Be honest - do not pretend to be somebody you are not III. Ping-pong / Discussion It is not about getting all the questions right! What the other side wants to learn is not only if you are qualified from a technical pov, but also what kind of person are you, because they will work with you, you will be in a team, so they need to imagine that they can work with you. Technical skills can be improved … soft skills are the hardest IV. Do you have questions? You better have! Ask questions! TIPS: - Be humble but confident; try not to be a smart ass; do not try to prove that you are the smart and the rest of the population, including your ex-colleagues or ex-boss are dumm. - Try looking the persons you are talking to in the eyes. - Get an interview with a company to practice an interview - Make notes after the interview: how long, what were you asked, how did you answer… GOOD LUCK!

Germany #28 - How to write a cover letter

04:10
Cover letter In your cover letter you give the company a first impression about yourself. But you have only 30 seconds to do that. Your cover letter should state your specific interest in the position you are applying for and why you are qualified for it. Your cover letter (anschreiben) should be written in clear style. It should be written on a computer rather than by hand and limited to one side of A4. Your personal data will be written in the upper left corner of the letter. This includes your full name, address, phone number and e-mail. You should start with the name and title of person who will be dealing with your application. You have to be sure of that person’s title. It is very important in Germany. So phone the company to find it out. If the application is speculative, use Personalabteilung (human resources, staff department, HR department, personnel, personnel division, personnel office) under the company name. Then open with the formal Dear Mr/Mrs (Sehr geehrte(r) Frau/Herr) (last name for example Müller – which is the most popular surname in Germany) or Dear Sir or Madam (Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren), if you don’t know the name. To be effective, your cover letter should follow the basic format of a typical business letter and should address three general issues: • First Paragraph - Why you are writing • Middle Paragraphs - What you have to offer • Concluding Paragraph - How you will follow-up Why are you writing? In some cases, you may have been referred to a potential employer by a friend or acquaintance. Be sure to mention this mutual contact by name as soon as possible as it is likely to encourage your reader to keep reading! If you are writing in response to a job advert, indicate where you learned of the position and the exact title of the position you are applying for. If you are writing a prospective application letter - a letter in which you enquire about potential job openings - state your specific job objective. It is a good idea to mention why you are interested in that specific company, esp. when you write a prospective application letter. What You Have To Offer In responding to a job advert, refer specifically to the qualifications they have listed and illustrate how your particular abilities and experiences relate to the position for which you are applying. In a prospective application letter express your potential to fulfill the employer's needs rather than focus on what the employer can offer you. How You Will Follow Up Bid directly for the job interview or an informational interview and indicate that you will follow-up with a telephone call to set up an appointment. Be sure to make the call within the time frame indicated. Even if you do not mention it explicitly in the letter, it is a good idea to make a follow up phone call. Timing is important: do not call on the very next day or after more than one week. In conclusion, you should also indicate that further references are available on request. After concluding your letter, sign it while mentioning your location and current date. Professional help with cover letters Unless you have excellent German skills, consider using professional help to write your first application. There are consultants that will optimize your cover letter for a fee, such as www.bewerbungsbuero.com or www.profibewerbung.de. The fees are between 195-250 EURO. There is also a cheaper option. You can look at German cover letter samples and use the design and the wording as a base for your own cover letter. At this website www.bewerbungsbeispiele.com you can find a wide range of samples.

human resource management basics and fundamentals. The process of hiring and developing employees so that they become more valuable to the organization. Human Resource Management includes conducting job analyses, planning personnel needs, recruiting the right people for the job, orienting and training, managing wages and salaries, providing benefits and incentives, evaluating performance, resolving disputes, and communicating with all employees at all levels. Examples of core qualities of HR management are extensive knowledge of the industry, leadership, and effective negotiation skills. Formerly called personnel management. Human resource management: A degree or level of freedom and discretion allowed to an employee over his or her job. As a general rule, jobs with high degree of autonomy engender a sense of responsibility and greater job satisfaction in the employee(s). What is PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION? What does PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION mean?

02:30
The Audiopedia Android application, INSTALL NOW - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wTheAudiopedia_8069473 What is PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION? What does PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION mean? PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION meaning - PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION definition - PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Public administration is the implementation of government policy and also an academic discipline that studies this implementation and prepares civil servants for working in the public service. As a "field of inquiry with a diverse scope" its "fundamental goal... is to advance management and policies so that government can function." Some of the various definitions which have been offered for the term are: "the management of public programs"; the "translation of politics into the reality that citizens see every day"; and "the study of government decision making, the analysis of the policies themselves, the various inputs that have produced them, and the inputs necessary to produce alternative policies." Public administration is "centrally concerned with the organization of government policies and programmes as well as the behavior of officials (usually non-elected) formally responsible for their conduct" Many unelected public servants can be considered to be public administrators, including heads of city, county, regional, state and federal departments such as municipal budget directors, human resources (H.R.) administrators, city managers, census managers, state mental health directors, and cabinet secretaries. Public administrators are public servants working in public departments and agencies, at all levels of government. In the US, civil servants and academics such as Woodrow Wilson promoted American civil service reform in the 1880s, moving public administration into academia. However, "until the mid-20th century and the dissemination of the German sociologist Max Weber's theory of bureaucracy" there was not "much interest in a theory of public administration." The field is multidisciplinary in character; one of the various proposals for public administration's sub-fields sets out six pillars, including human resources, organizational theory, policy analysis and statistics, budgeting, and ethics.

A Master of Business Administration (MBA or M.B.A.) holds a master's degree in business administration (management). The MBA degree originated in the United States in the early 20th century when the country industrialized and companies sought scientific approaches to management. The core courses in an MBA program cover various areas of business such as accounting, finance, marketing, human resources, and operations in a manner most relevant to management analysis and strategy. Most programs also include elective courses. The MBA is a terminal degree and a professional degree.[1][2] Accreditation bodies specifically for MBA programs ensure consistency and quality of education. Business schools in many countries offer programs tailored to full-time, part-time, executive (abridged coursework typically occurring on nights and/or weekends), and distance learning students, many with concentrations.
