Intro and Getting Stock Price Data - Python Programming for Finance p.1

09:34
Welcome to a Python for Finance tutorial series. In this series, we're going to run through the basics of importing financial (stock) data into Python using the Pandas framework. From here, we'll manipulate the data and attempt to come up with some sort of system for investing in companies, apply some machine learning, even some deep learning, and then learn how to back-test a strategy. I assume you know the fundamentals of Python. If you're not sure if that's you, click the fundamentals link, look at some of the topics in the series, and make a judgement call. If at any point you are stuck in this series or confused on a topic or concept, feel free to ask for help and I will do my best to help. https://pythonprogramming.net https://twitter.com/sentdex https://www.facebook.com/pythonprogramming.net/ https://plus.google.com/+sentdex

Uber begins trading at $42 per share after pricing at $45

12:46
Uber (UBER) officially began trading Friday on the New York Stock Exchange, but stumbled out of the gate as its stock dropped below its $45 initial public offering price. In Uber’s first test of whether it can transition from Silicon Valley unicorn to a publicly traded company while winning over a skeptical, volatile market, the stock — which priced at $45 on Thursday — gradually drifted lower from the $46-$48 indicated range prior the open. In its first trade, Uber hit the market at $42 per share on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), effectively crashing out of the preferred range that it listed for its IPO of between $44 to $50. In an interview with Yahoo Finance, NYSE COO John Tuttle said the first trade would be determined by a list of factors. “I think a lot of things go into pricing an IPO. Market conditions and how two comparable companies perform in the market are two variables that are considered,” Tuttle said. That comparable company he’s referring to is ride-hailing competitor Lyft (LYFT). Uber’s offering is the most eagerly anticipated of a wave of technology IPOs expected to hit markets this year. Yet the company has become the victim of circumstances beyond its control, with markets being roiled by fears of a U.S.-China trade war. Meanwhile, Lyft’s disappointing stock debut has clouded Uber’s prospects. Lyft’s maiden voyage as a public company in March immediately hit rough shoals: The stock opened near $90, but quickly sank to a low of $52.78. On Friday, its stock hit a record low, underscoring investor skepticism about how either company will make money in the near term. Lyft’s woes — combined with the fact that virtually none of the tech unicorns are profitable at this juncture — is adding to Uber’s challenge. The company burned through $1 billion in the first quarter of 2019, Uber recently revealed in a regulatory filing, and has yet to chart a path toward making a profit. “Reading the S-1 filings of these companies has been an eye-opening experience,” analysts at Bernstein noted last month. Ride sharing accounts for just a sliver of U.S. vehicle miles traveled, which “is simultaneously the bull case and bear case here for these companies. Bulls on mobility services can claim almost limitless potential for penetration upside,” Bernstein said. However, “Uber and Lyft each took almost a decade to get to their present scale, are seeing growth slow, and incinerate cash at impressive rates while showing modest operating leverage,” the firm added — all of which matters now that both have to report their business conditions on a regular basis. Mark Cuban talks about what it takes to be successful with anything

41:32
Some influencers don't say much, quietly making deals behind the scenes. Mark Cuban is the total opposite. The owner of the Dallas Mavericks is known for criticizing referees and presidents alike. His business chops go back to the 1990s, when Cuban co-founded an online streaming company that he sold to Yahoo for $5.7 billion. He has since invested in dozens of startups and continues to do so as a host of the show "Shark Tank." Cuban is here to talk about how to pick the right investments, ignoring everybody else's noise, and maybe generating some of your own. Hello, everyone, I'm Andy Serwer. Welcome to "Influencers," and welcome to our guest Mark Cuban. Mark, great to see you. MARK CUBAN: Thanks for having me. ANDY SERWER: Mark, of course, entrepreneur, star of "Shark Tank," owner of the Dallas Mavericks. And, in fact, he's hosting us here today. We're at Dallas Mavericks headquarters here across the street. MARK CUBAN: Yep. Right across from the arena. ANDY SERWER: From the arena, right. So, a whole bunch of stuff to talk to you about. MARK CUBAN: Fire away. ANDY SERWER: But let's talk about this president thing that's out there. There are people who suggest that you should run for president, maybe you have aspirations. I don't know, but it's a discussion point. So what would it take to have you run for president? MARK CUBAN: I'm excited about next year for the Mavs. It's going to be a great season. ANDY SERWER: Come on, man. MARK CUBAN: I don't even want to get into it. I mean, I did one quick interview, and then all of a sudden it blew up. I don't want to feed the beast. Like I said, there is a certain set of circumstances that would push me to do it, but we're not there yet. So if and when it happens, you'll be the first to know, Andy. ANDY SERWER: OK. That's very cool. What about the Democratic field? Is there anyone there that you think can challenge President Trump? MARK CUBAN: Well, I mean, there's now and then there's November of 2020. I mean, if the election were held today, I think Trump would win. I don't think that there's somebody that has the momentum or just the value of the incumbency that Trump has. But, at the same time, between now and then, I think Joe Biden has got a good chance. And we'll see what happens with any of the other of the field of 97 to see if anybody emerges or if anybody new comes in. I think Biden is capable of beating him, but we're not there yet. ANDY SERWER: You've been critical of President Trump before. Have you kind of made any peace with him? I mean, you know, it's been a couple of years. MARK CUBAN: I get along with him. I mean, you know, we didn't have to make peace. You know, like any president, I agree with some things and disagree with other things. It's not personal. There's things I would do differently, and but it was the same with Obama, it was the same with Bush, it was the same with Clinton. That's just the nature of the beast. ANDY SERWER: So have you talked to him and given him any advice? Or what advice would you give him? MARK CUBAN: I mean, I'm not a fan of the tariffs. I understand what he's trying to do in terms of battling China. I would approach it differently, because I think tariffs are attacks on the American people. But, at the same time, I think we have a variety of other leverage points. I'll give you the perfect example. Chinese companies on American-- Chinese companies listed on American exchanges have a market cap of more than $1.4 trillion. That's a lot of leverage right there. They're raising money via IPOs-- something we can't do in China. I'd shut down all Chinese IPOs. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/influencers-transcript-mark-cuban-111607571.html Subscribe to Yahoo Finance: https://yhoo.it/2fGu5Bb About Yahoo Finance: At Yahoo Finance, you get free stock quotes, up-to-date news, portfolio management resources, international market data, social interaction and mortgage rates that help you manage your financial life. Uber IPO closes negative - after raising billions

03:14
Yahoo Finance's Jen Rogers and Myles Udland discuss the Uber IPO with Real Vision Reporter Justine Underhill. Uber (UBER) officially began trading Friday on the New York Stock Exchange, but stumbled out of the gate as its stock settled below its $45 initial public offering price. In Uber’s first test of whether it can transition from Silicon Valley unicorn to a publicly traded company while winning over a skeptical, volatile market, the stock — which priced at $45 on Thursday — gradually drifted lower from the $46-$48 indicated range prior the open. In its first trade, Uber hit the market at $42 per share on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), effectively crashing out of the preferred range that it listed for its IPO. After a choppy session, Uber ended the day at $41.60, down nearly 8% from its listing price. Uber’s offering is the most eagerly anticipated of a wave of technology IPOs expected to hit markets this year. Yet the company has become the victim of circumstances beyond its control, with markets being roiled by fears of a U.S.-China trade war, and the weak debut of Uber’s ride-hailing competitor, Lyft (LYFT). Facebook unveils crypto app to launch in 2020

05:51
Head of Policy and Communications for the Libra Association Dante Disparte discusses the new cryptocurrency, Libra, that will be used with Facebook's cryptocurrency project called Calibra. Facebook (FB) on Tuesday announced the details of its widely-rumored cryptocurrency project: a financial services offering called Calibra. Calibra is a “newly formed Facebook subsidiary” and its first product, launching in 2020, will be a digital wallet to store and send Libra, a new cryptocurrency. The digital wallet will initially be available inside WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, and eventually as a standalone app for iOS and Android. Calibra will enable users to send Libra to each other “as easily and instantly as you might send a text message, and at low to no cost.” Eventually, Facebook says, “we hope to offer additional services for people and businesses, such as paying bills with the push of a button, buying a cup of coffee with the scan of a code, or riding your local public transit without needing to carry cash or a metro pass.” The differences between Calibra and Libra Libra, the cryptocurrency, will run on its own Libra blockchain, which today launches an open-source testnet. The blockchain and cryptocurrency will all be overseen by the Libra Association, a not-for-profit that is separate from Facebook and headquartered in Geneva. The Libra Association posted its announcement at the same time as Facebook’s Calibra announcement, and says it is targeting the first half of 2020 to launch the cryptocurrency. The cryptocurrency will be backed by the Libra Reserve, a “collection of low-volatility assets like bank deposits and government securities, in currencies from stable and reputable central banks,” a Libra Association spokesperson tells Yahoo Finance. Libra Association says Libra is not a stablecoin, because it is not pegged to a single currency and does not have a fixed value in any fiat currency. Rather, a spokesperson says, it will be “a blend of multiple currencies,” so its value “will fluctuate in any given local currency, and exchanges will charge a spread above or below the value of the reserve.” Libra Association’s “founding members” include: Facebook; Coinbase; Visa; MasterCard; PayPal; Stripe; Uber; Lyft; eBay; and Spotify. Every founding member has committed to a minimum investment of $10 million, Libra Association says. These companies will “work together on finalizing the association’s charter” but the Libra Association is not yet saying whether being a founding member means that all of these organizations will accept Libra as payment when it launches. The announcement stresses that the Libra Association is “independent.” But considering the co-orchestrated launch and simultaneous announcements, critics may scoff at the idea that Libra is truly separate from Facebook. There will also surely be widespread debate over whether Libra is truly a decentralized cryptocurrency. Promises about security In a companion document to its announcement, Calibra stresses repeatedly that it will prioritize security. Calibra will be a regulated entity, and will keep customers’ financial data separate from Facebook social data. (Facebook has long had ambitions of offering financial services.) [Facebook hasn't told us: why launch a cryptocurrency?] The security guidelines continue, in boldface type: “Calibra will not share account information or financial data with Facebook, Inc or any third party without customer consent. For example, Calibra customers’ account information and financial data will not be used to improve ad targeting on the Facebook, Inc family of products.” For the rest of this story by Yahoo Finance's Dan Roberts click: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/facebook-crypto-calibra-libra-coin-2020-launch-090007870.html Subscribe to Yahoo Finance: https://yhoo.it/2fGu5Bb About Yahoo Finance: At Yahoo Finance, you get free stock quotes, up-to-date news, portfolio management resources, international market data, social interaction and mortgage rates that help you manage your financial life.
