Download Insight Plug In here: https://insight.autodesk.com/oneenergy/landing/download For more information on BPA : https://sustainabilityworkshop.autodesk.com/bpac Workflow Steps: Create an In-Place Mass: • Open a new Revit project. • Go to the Massing & Site tab and open the In-Place Mass tool. • Enter a name for the mass. • Sketch a simple closed profile on Level 1. • Select the profile sketch and click the Create Form tool. • Select the top surface of the created form and drag it to about 45 feet tall. • Click Finish Mass. If the building form has already been modeled as a conceptual mass family, you can open and use it. Divide the conceptual mass into mass floors by floor levels: • Open any elevation view. • Go to the Architecture tab and click the Level tool. • Drag to create an additional level above Level 2. • Repeat to create three levels with a spacing of 15 feet between each level. • You can quickly create multiple levels in many ways: • In the Level tool, choose the Pick Lines creation method with an offset of 15 feet. • Select an existing level, then use the Copy or Array tools to create multiple copies. • Open the default 3D view and select the mass. • Go to the Modify | Mass tab and click Mass Floors. • Select all the levels, then click OK. Set the Project Location: • Sign into A360 to have access to a list of weather stations for the specified project location. • Go the Analyze tab and open the Location tool. • Choose to Define Location by: Internet Mapping Service. • Enter an address, then click Search. • Select the project location. • Select the desired weather station from the weather station list. By default, the closest weather station is selected as the project weather station. You can select one with the most similar conditions to the project location. • Click OK to apply settings Set the Energy Settings for Conceptual Energy Analysis: • Go to Analyze tab and open Energy Settings. • In the Energy Analytical Model section, use the default mode: Use Conceptual Masses and Building Elements. It is recommended to use the Conceptual Masses and Building Elements mode for all cases because it includes more accurate thermal zoning capabilities and allows to use the building type to create the 2030 benchmark. The Conceptual Masses mode does not provide the building type to define the 2030 benchmark. Also, selecting the Conceptual Masses and Building Elements mode adds several useful views to your project– a 3D Energy Model view and schedule views showing the Analytical Spaces and Analytical Surfaces in the energy model. • In the Advanced: Other Options section, select the Building Type: - Click the Edit… button in the Other Options setting. - In the Building Data section, choose the building type for this model that matches your assumptions about the building usage and operating schedule. • Click OK twice to apply these settings. Create the Energy Model: • Go to the Analyze tab and click Create Energy Model. If prompted, confirm that you want to Create the Energy Analytical Model. The Create Energy Model button toggles between Create Energy Model and Delete Energy Model. If you change any Energy Settings after an Energy Model has been created, delete the current energy model and create a new one. Generate Insight for this Model: • Sign in to A360. • Save a local copy of your project before uploading it for analysis. • Go to the Analyze tab and click Generate. - If the energy model has not already been created, accept the prompt to create it now. - If the energy model already exists, choose whether to use the existing model or generate a new one.

This means now you can visualize and analyze the results. Basically there are two options: •Use the browser-based post-processing (currently in BETA) environment within the SimScale interface •Download the results and use your own post-processing software to visualize and analyze the simulation results The Post-Processing environment in SimScale - currently in Beta-phase - is based on Kitware’s ParaViewWeb technology. After the simulation run is finished, the results can be visualized within the Post-Processor tab. The runs are sorted according to the projects - click on the one you want to visualize to initialize the environment. Since the rendering is done remotely the initialization may need a few seconds before you can see something. In case you want to use your own software to examine the simulation you can download the results simply by clicking on the Download results button of the specific simulation run. Monitoring Volcanoes Using ASTER Satellite Imagery
Download video at: http://gallery.usgs.gov/videos/1016 The Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) sensor is one of five sensors on board NASA's Terra satellite. ASTER data and imagery are crucial tools for monitoring volcanoes for any clues of imminent eruptions, for studying volcanoes during an eruption, and for analyzing impacts after an eruption. Scientists use ASTER imagery to study the composition and temperature of gasses emitted by a volcano, to look for changes to surface temperatures, and to interpret topographic and geological features. The ASTER sensor has three telescopes: visible near infrared (VNIR), shortwave (SWIR), and thermal infrared (TIR). This video highlights the use of VNIR imagery and TIR imagery to study volcanic gas composition and surface temperature changes. It also highlights the use of stereoscopic imagery to study topographic and geologic features. ASTER is a partnership between NASA, Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), and Japan Space Systems (J-spacesystems). Note: This data visualization was created using NASA's ASTER Level 1 Precision Terrain Corrected Registered At-Sensor Radiance (AST_L1T) data distributed by the NASA Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC), located at the USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center. ANSYS 18.1 Topology Optimization
ANSYS v18.1 Workbench Tutorial video on how to use the topology optimization feature in order to reduce the total mass of a mechanical metal bracket. DOWNLOAD: SpaceClaim v18.1 Final Geometry File: https://goo.gl/Nj57Ns Long Description: We will begin by opening ANSYS v18.1 Workbench interface. Check the engineering data to ensure the proper material is selected (in our case it will be the default material). Open up SpaceClaim to create our geometry (note, you can always right click on the geometry cell and click to open in DesignModeler instead if you are more comfortable using it). Once in SpaceClaim, we will use the line tool and pull tool to create our metal bracket. Once created, we exit SpaceClaim and head into Mechanical to set up our loads and boundary conditions. Create a mesh using the sizing "Proximity and Curvature" to better capture the round corner details. Add two cylindrical supports, choose to make the tangential component free. Add one bearing load with 50KN in the X-dir and 100KN in the Z-dir. Add Equivalent Stress results and Solve to view the stress results. Exit Mechanical and go back to the project schematic window. Drag Topology Optimization onto cell 7 "Results" of the first analysis. This will link the static structural analysis to the topology optimization analysis. Leave most of the settings default. Change the Response Constraint to retain 60% of the mass. Solve the system. Exit out of Mechanical and right click on cell 7 Results on the topology optimization analysis and click on "Transfer to Design Validation System" in order to export the STL file generated into a new static structural analysis automatically. Open up SpaceClaim in the new analysis to view the STL import results. Create a new sketch plane and copy the edges of the STL file to a new sketch. Under the Repair tab, use the option Fit Curves to simplify the rough curve geometry from the import. Choose to Correct Tangency and keep the default distance 0.1mm. Simpify the rest of the geometry as needed using the Trim Away tool and Create Corner tool. Should you want to reduce the amount of faces for mesh generation, use the Merge Faces tool under the repair tab to merge selected faces into one face. In order to not export all product structure files into the analysis, we must right click on the products in the structure tree and choose "Suppress for Physics" in order to remove these items from the analysis. Keep only the Solid file. Exit SpaceClaim and open Mechanical by double clicking on the Model cell. Say yes when prompted to read upstream data. Regenerate mesh and reapply boundary conditions and loads. Finally solve the model to view the final results. ---Please subscribe to my channel DrDalyo for more videos! Enjoy!

This means now you can visualize and analyze the results. Basically there are two options: •Use the browser-based post-processing (currently in BETA) environment within the SimScale interface •Download the results and use your own post-processing software to visualize and analyze the simulation results After the simulation run is finished, the results can be visualized within the Post-Processor tab. The runs are sorted according to the projects - click on the one you want to visualize to initialize the environment. Since the rendering is done remotely the initialization may need a few seconds before you can see something. In case you want to use your own software to examine the simulation you can download the results simply by clicking on the Download results button of the specific simulation run. Currently the results are provided as vtk-files for which many of the known post processing systems has import capabilities for. In case you are looking for one, ParaView is an Open Source tool that can be used for a lot of post processing tasks.
