In this video I will be showing you how to change your BIOS settings to boot from a USB device if for some reasons you do not see your USB device in the list of possible boot devices, this is a common problem in the more recent pavilion series of Hp laptops. To solve this problem, go to your BIOS using the required function key or ESC key, go to the system configuration tab and move down to boot options and hit enter. Then go to legacy support and change it to “enabled”. Then using your arrow key go down to your USB device under the UEFI boot order and use the required function key to move the USB device to the top of the boot order, then use the F10 Key to save an exit. Now you may see this DOS page asking you to enter a certain code and hit the enter key to complete the process, after that the Windows installation will start loading. This tutorial demonstrates how to launch the built-in BIOS utility to change the boot order of your devices on your computer. If you are looking to set the primary boot device to a usb flash drive/stick or CD/DVD follow these steps. If you ever want to change these settings back, you can do so following the keyboard shortcuts located in the BIOS. Remember to always save your changes before closing out of the utility. To boot from a CD, DVD or USB device, make sure that the device has boot sequence priority over the hard drive. BIOS (Basic Input Output Subsystem) is a programmable chip that controls how information is passed to various devices in the computer system. A typical method to access the BIOS settings screen is to press ESC, F1, F2, F8 or F10 during the boot sequence. BIOS settings allow you to run a boot sequence from a floppy drive, a hard drive, a CD-ROM drive or an external device. You may configure the order that your computer searches these physical devices for the boot sequence. The first device in the order list has the first boot priority. For example, to boot from a CD-ROM drive instead of a hard drive, place the CD-ROM drive ahead of the hard drive in priority. Before you set boot priority for a USB device, plug the device into a USB port. To specify the boot sequence: 1. Start the computer and press ESC, F1, F2, F8 or F10 during the initial startup screen. Depending on the BIOS manufacturer, a menu may appear. 2. Choose to enter BIOS setup. The BIOS setup utility page appears. 3. Use the arrow keys to select the BOOT tab. System devices appear in order of priority. 4. To give a CD or DVD drive boot sequence priority over the hard drive, move it to the first position in the list. 5. To give a USB device boot sequence priority over the hard drive, do the following: Move the hard drive device to the top of the boot sequence list. Expand the hard drive device to display all hard drives. Move the USB device to the top of the list of hard drives. Save and exit the BIOS setup utility. 6. The computer will restart with the changed settings. 7. Boot Priority Options Some computer manufacturers allow you to select the device that contains the boot sequence from a special device selection menu. The example below uses a Dell system board. To set boot priority using a device selection menu: 1.When the computer starts to boot up, after the manufacturer's ID screen, press F12 several times. The device selection menu appears. 2. Use the up and down arrows to select CD-ROM or an USB Flash Drive. 3. To boot from the selected device, press ENTER. Note: Using an incorrect BIOS setting can cause a system malfunction. Please follow the BIOS guide provided with your computer motherboard. If you read these instructions and you are not sure how to change a setting, it is better to leave it as the default setting. This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7 operating systems.Works for all major computer manufactures (Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, Samsung).

The tutorial shows you example on the laptop and on the desktop computer. Insert bootable USB Drive in laptop and restart it. On startup, Access the "Boot Menu", by pressing a specific key on your keyboard: usually F12 or Esc, It depending on your Manufacturer. Anyway you can easily find it on startup screen. On this example my bootable USB, is listed as a USB Storage Device, select it and hit enter to resume startup. OK now let’s see example on the Desktop computer Same steps, Insert bootable USB Drive in desktop computer and restart it. On startup, Access the "Boot Menu", by pressing a specific key. You can find it on startup screen. Select Hard Disc and hit enter. So, on this example my USB, listed as a Hard Drive option. Select USB-HDD0 and hit enter to resume startup. So, insert your USB, restart computer and press specific key on your keyboard, to get access to BIOS, usually it is Delete key or F2. Select Advanced BIOS Features and hit enter. First, check Hard Disk Boot Priority If your USB is not listed here as USB-HDD0 Go back by pressing escape key Select First boot Device hit enter and choose USB-HDD from the list,( It is a preferred boot method). In this VMWare Workstation Tutorial, you will learn to boot a VMWare Virtual Machine From USB Flash Drive. VMWare actually does not support from booting all the USB drives. You may find that sometimes it let you boot from some of USB flash drives and other times it fails. PLOP is an alternative third party ISO image which let use access your Bootable USB Drive during boot process. But you can boot directly from USB drive within from VMWare Workstation by using a little tricks. What you need to do is to add an Additional Hard Disk Drive and point your USB drive as a Physical Disc to newly added drive. Then change the BIOS Boot options to boot from the newly added Hard Drive. In this video, you will learn to add a new Hard Drive to your Virtual Machine and then attach your USB Drive to newly created hard drive. Learn how to configure boot settings in Windows 10 and gain a better understanding of the bios boot options available including Legacy and UEFI. For more information please visit http://dell.com/support For support questions email us at [email protected] VIDEO TRANSCRIPT Welcome to Dell Tech Support. Want to know more about how the boot process of your computer works? In today’s video we’ll cover this, as well as how to customize the boot process according to your needs. When you turn on the computer, it goes through the following steps. The BIOS loads all the physical components first. Then the POST does a quick check on all of them to make sure each one is okay. And finally the BOOT loads and starts the Operating System, this of course all happens in just a few quick seconds. To customize the BOOT process, turn on your computer and press the F2 key repeatedly to access the BIOS. Go to the BOOT tab and check the options available for customization. The Secure Boot is responsible for protecting your Operating System. When this option is Enabled, your system can only be replaced or partitioned through the restoration process (DELL warranty covers ONLY the original Operating System). Legacy Option ROMs (Read Only Memory) is responsible for the default Legacy BIOS. It’s best to keep this option default as Enabled. But if you do decide to change it, back up your data beforehand as this type of change will be applied to your Operating System. The Boot List Option has 2 options: Legacy and UEFI. This is basically the firmware option you can choose to boot your device. Legacy is the oldest firmware for Operating Systems that will work with the MBR file format (Master Boot Record). UEFI stands for Unified Extensible Firmware Interface which speeds up the boot process but also protects the Operating System. It prevents a new system from being installed over the original factory installation and it is not possible to create other partitions in this mode. For additional information on understanding Boot Options within BIOS, check out the link provided in the video description below. http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/4/SLN142679/EN

Power ON the PC, press the Delete key a few times to enter BIOS. "Boot Priority" should be visible on the first page. Either drag and drop the icons using the mouse cursor, or use the keyboard to change the boot order (press the arrow keys until the Boot Priority section is highlighted, press Enter key on a device to select it, than use arrow keys to re-position it, press Enter again to deselect it). When the computer is powered ON the first device from the left side will be booted, if that does not contain any operating systems than the second device will be booted, than the third and so on. In this manner you can: - Boot from Hard Drive - Boot from a different Hard Drive - Boot from CD/DVD - Boot from USB (Flash Drive, external HDD or CD/DVD)
