The size of the world stock market was estimated at about $36.6 trillion at the beginning of October 2008. The total world derivatives market has been estimated at about $791 trillion face or nominal value, 11 times the size of the entire world economy. The value of the derivatives market, because it is stated in terms of notional values, cannot be directly compared to a stock or a fixed income security, which traditionally refers to an actual value... The stocks are listed and traded on stock exchanges which are entities of a corporation or mutual organization specialized in the business of bringing buyers and sellers of the organizations to a listing of stocks and securities together. The largest stock market in the United States, by market capitalization, is the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE)... Market participants include individual retail investors, institutional investors such as mutual funds, banks, insurance companies and hedge funds, and also publicly traded corporations trading in their own shares. Some studies have suggested that institutional investors and corporations trading in their own shares generally receive higher risk-adjusted returns than retail investors. Participants in the stock market range from small individual stock investors to large hedge fund traders, who can be based anywhere. Their orders usually end up with a professional at a stock exchange, who executes the order of buying or selling. Some exchanges are physical locations where transactions are carried out on a trading floor, by a method known as open outcry. This type of auction is used in stock exchanges and commodity exchanges where traders may enter "verbal" bids and offers simultaneously. The other type of stock exchange is a virtual kind, composed of a network of computers where trades are made electronically via traders. Actual trades are based on an auction market model where a potential buyer bids a specific price for a stock and a potential seller asks a specific price for the stock. (Buying or selling at market means you will accept any ask price or bid price for the stock, respectively.) When the bid and ask prices match, a sale takes place, on a first-come-first-served basis if there are multiple bidders or askers at a given price. The purpose of a stock exchange is to facilitate the exchange of securities between buyers and sellers, thus providing a marketplace (virtual or real). The exchanges provide real-time trading information on the listed securities, facilitating price discovery. The New York Stock Exchange is a physical exchange, also referred to as a listed exchange -- only stocks listed with the exchange may be traded. Orders enter by way of exchange members and flow down to a floor broker, who goes to the floor trading post specialist for that stock to trade the order. The specialist's job is to match buy and sell orders using open outcry. If a spread exists, no trade immediately takes place—in this case the specialist should use his/her own resources (money or stock) to close the difference after his/her judged time. Once a trade has been made the details are reported on the "tape" and sent back to the brokerage firm, which then notifies the investor who placed the order. Although there is a significant amount of human contact in this process, computers play an important role, especially for so-called "program trading". The NASDAQ is a virtual listed exchange, where all of the trading is done over a computer network. The process is similar to the New York Stock Exchange. However, buyers and sellers are electronically matched. One or more NASDAQ market makers will always provide a bid and ask price at which they will always purchase or sell 'their' stock...

The Stock Market Crash of 1987 | Cancel Crash

43:19
The fragile state of today’s world financial markets is not a new phenomenon. It wasn’t long ago that the world braced itself for another Great Depression. It was the defining moment of the 1980's. The New York Stock Exchange, the epicenter of the world financial markets and backbone of American capitalism, was under siege. On October 19th, 1987, the Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 508 points, the largest single day drop in the history of the stock market. But it was on Tuesday, October 20th that the world's financial markets came within 5 minutes of total disintegration. How was it averted? Was it a miracle? Manipulation? Or a lucky trade? Cancel Crash depicts the dramatic events that saved the world from financial anarchy and presents for the first time what actually happened on Terrible Tuesday. Framed between the opening bell on Friday, October 16h to the closing bell of Terrible Tuesday, the story unfolds as the perilous clock ticks, revealing those who prevented a global Depression and saved our financial markets. ======== tastytrade.com ======== Finally a financial network for traders, built by traders. Top 10 Countries With The LARGEST Gold Reserves!

10:32
Check out these 10 countries with the largest gold reserves in the world! This top 10 list features some of the richest and wealthiest countries on earth that have tons of gold bars stacked up somewhere! Subscribe For New Videos! http://goo.gl/UIzLeB Watch our "SURPRISING And Interesting Facts About Money!" video here: https://youtu.be/ONpChSPqVc4 Watch our "Most AMAZING Discoveries With A Metal Detector!" video here: https://youtu.be/45JveYKafVo Watch our "Most EXPENSIVE Diamonds In The World!" video here: https://youtu.be/RcZATf3Lmb0 10.) India According to the World Gold Council, the Bank of India currently holds 557.7 tons of gold. It is one of the largest stores of gold in the world! This makes up 9.9 % of the country’s total foreign reserve. Foreign exchange reserves is money or other assets held by a nation’s central bank so they can back the national currency. India, home to 1.25 billion people, is the number one largest consumer of the precious metal. Furthermore, India is one of the most reliable drivers of global demand. For example, India’s festival and wedding season, which runs from October to December, has historically been a major market for gold. And probably, one of the most interesting facts about India and gold is that India rarely invests much in gold. This is because as a country, India operates under the belief that buying gold leads to a deficit. And their belief must be proving right as things also seem to be improving for India. For instance, if you look at the last few years, India has increased its gold reserves from 557.74 to 557.77. While this might not seem like a lot, India is also at its highest point in history! In addition to what the country holds, Indian households which are considered the world’s largest hoarders of gold, hold a record 23,000-24,000 tons, which is worth about $800 billion. 9.) Netherlands In the past few years, the Netherlands has held 52% of its foreign reserve in gold. The Netherlands has a reported 612.45 tons. In 2016 it was reported that the bank was looking for a place to store all its gold because they were going to renovate the vaults and needed to moving it. The Dutch central bank is planning to move the country’s gold reserves from the center of Amsterdam to a new complex called the Cash Center. Like most countries, Dutch gold is also held in banks around the world to reduce risk. Security measures to guard the gold 24/7 have become a problem in Amsterdam. 189,000 kilos of gold will be moved at the beginning of 2022. Maybe this is one reason that over the last decade and a half, the Netherlands was selling off tons of gold in order to reduce its reserve. However, there weren’t that many buyers out there and they sold less than the country wanted. More recently the country has had less ambition to sell gold. Currently, the country holds the same amount of tons, 612.45 that they have over the last few years. However, the country has increased its percentage of foreign reserves to 61.2 %. 8.) Japan Japan is another country which had been increasing its gold reserves since the 1960’s. Their official gold holdings were reported at 765.2 tons. About 2.4% of Japan’s gold today is in foreign reserve. Historically, Japan has always held a bit more gold than other countries. This was true until 2011, when they began to sell some of their reserve in order to pump money into the economy after the tsunami and the following Fukushima nuclear disaster. But even with selling, Japan’s central bank has been one of the most aggressive practitioners of quantitative easing. For example, in January of 2016, it lowered interest rates below zero, which has helped fuel demand in gold around the world. 7.) Switzerland Prior to 1997, Switzerland was steadily building its gold reserves. In 1997, the decision was made to sell some of those reserves to bolster the Swiss currency and diversify the foreign reserves. The percent of foreign reserves in Switzerland is currently 6.7 %. Switzerland actually has the world’s largest reserves of gold per capita and currently has reported 1,040 tons. Over time, many citizens in the country started to feel like the bank was getting rid of too much gold. They then banded together with the “Save the Swiss” movement. However, once everyone was able to vote in 2014, the vote came to a no, and gold continued to be sold. During World War II, Switzerland became the center of the gold trade in Europe, making transactions with both the Allies and Axis powers. Today, much of its gold trading is done with Hong Kong and China. Around last year, the Swiss National Bank made a $5.9 billion profit, reportedly from its gold holdings. 10 Expert Predict When The Imminent Economic Collapse & Stock Market Crash Will Happen

19:10
Will the Economic Collapse happen in 2018? These 10 well-known expert and strategists predict when will the U.S. economy collapse. The risks of a recession in the next 18-24 months are rising and the markets are potentially on a collision course for a major stock market crash. Are You Prepared For The Coming Economic Collapse And The Next Great Depression? If a U.S. economic collapse occurs, it will happen quickly. For example, the U.S. economy almost collapsed on September 17, 2008. That's the day the Reserve Primary Fund broke the buck. Panicked investors withdrew a record $140 billion from money market accounts where businesses keep cash to fund day-to-day operations. If withdrawals had gone on for even a week, the entire economy would have halted. That meant trucks would stop rolling, grocery stores would run out of food, and businesses would shut down.  Fortunately, the Federal Reserve Chairman and U.S. Treasury Secretary noticed the signal and knew what it meant. Ben Bernanke was a Great Depression scholar. Hank Paulson was a Wall Street veteran. Their bailout plan supplied enough cash to prevent a total collapse. The 2008 financial crisis did plenty of damage, but it could have been much worse. Music: CO.AG Music https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcavSftXHgxLBWwLDm_bNvA A stock market crash is a precipitous and rapid decline (that may persist for months or years) in the prices of shares traded on a stock exchange, caused by panic selling. Stock market crashes are triggered typically by loss of investor confidence after an unexpected event, and are exacerbated by fear. Stock market crash are usually preceded by a period of prolonged and high inflation, economic and/or political uncertainty, or hysteric speculative activity. They bring normal economic activity to a halt, wipe out the savings of millions of investors, and bring widespread misery in their wake, specially for the weaker and vulnerable sections of the society.

Business English Vocabulary: The Stock Market

13:38
http://www.engvid.com Learn business English vocabulary: Whether you are investing in a bull or a bear market, you should know the common terms and expressions that stock brokers and mutual fund managers will use to discuss your options. In this lesson, we will go over some of the more common terms you will need to familiarize yourself with if you want to become rich. Playing the stock market is a risky business, so be prepared! http://www.engvid.com/business-english-vocabulary-stock-market/ TRANSCRIPT Hi again. I'm Adam. Welcome back to www.engvid.com. Today we're going to look at some business English, with an introduction to investing. Now, what is investing? Investing is putting your money someplace with the hope that more money will come back to you later. Okay? So it's making money over time. Many ways to do it, but today we're going to look more specifically at the stock market. Now, before we begin to look at the stock market, we need to know all the different words that you will find in the stock market discussion. Of course, we have to look at "stocks". So: "stocks" and "shares". Now, many people get confused: what is a stock? What is a share? Realistically, these are basically the same thing, but subtle differences between the two. So, when a company decides that it wants to make money, so it can expand its business, it wants to raise capital. "Capital", it's a big word, there's lots of meanings to it. We're going to look at that a different time. But for our case, "capital" means money. They want to make money, they want to raise capital so they can grow their business. So what they do is they sell stock. Stock is a partial ownership of the company. So when you buy stock, you get a piece of paper, you get a certificate that says that you own part of this company. And because you own part of the company, you have certain rights. You can make... You can vote for changes, you can vote for things that the company should do. Now, what is a share? A share is an equal piece of the stock. So, for example, a company sells $100 worth of stock. That's the full amount of the ownership that the company makes available to the public. Now, this stock, this total amount, they divide into 100 shares. Okay? So you buy as many shares as you want of this stock. So because you have 100 shares, the full stock is $100. Each share is, of course, $1. You buy 10 shares, that mean... That means you're buying 10% of the available stock. You're buying $10 worth of shares. Now, you own stock, you own shares in the company. In that case, it's the same thing. Now, when you talk about stocks, you can say: "I own stocks." So let's go to this word quickly: "portfolio". Your portfolio is the collection of your investments. You may have stocks, you may have mutual funds, you may have bonds, you may have commodities, you may have real estate. You may have all kinds of different investments. If part of your portfolio is stocks, you say: "I have some stocks." It means I can have five company's stocks. But when you say: "I have shares", then you have shares of a company. Okay? I have stocks in 10 different companies. I have shares... I have 10% or I have 100 shares in this company, I have 50 shares in that company, I have 2,000 shares in that company. But all together, you have stock. Okay? So it's a total amount of the companies that you own. Now, if you want to buy stocks or trade stocks, if you want to buy and sell your shares, you can contact a "stockbroker". Okay? A broker is somebody who deals with trades; buys, sells stocks on the stock market. These days, you can just go online and find a "brokerage" which is a website or a company that lets you buy and sell your own stocks and shares. Okay. Next: we have "IPO", this is "Initial Public Offering". Sorry I'm a little bit off line, here. When a company decides: "Okay, we need to make more money. We need to raise capital. We need to sell some stock of our company." So the first time that they sell this stock, there's a big event, you know, like it's a big promotion, they have to market it, they have to tell the public: "Look, we're going to sell stock. Get ready." This is the initial public offering. The first time that they sell stock. We actually don't say: "Sell". They don't sell stock; they issue stock. And then the stock brokerage or the stockbrokers, they buy and sell the stock. Next: "ROI". This is a very important thing to consider. "Return On Investment". Before you buy anything, before you invest your money in anything, you always have to consider your ROI. How much money do you hope to get back? How much money do you think you will get back? Because at the end of the day, a stock market is a gamble. There's high-risk and there's low-risk companies. Your return on investment, obviously, you're hoping to make money. You hope to get a positive yield.

The Canadian Stock Market Will Crash! - This Is Why

17:48
Josh Sigurdson talks with author and economic analyst John Sneisen regarding the massive level of instability at the TSX (Toronto Stock Exchange) as it drops more than 200 points. The stock market is overheating and something we at WAM have been warning about for so long is finally coming true. The heavily manipulated derivatives markets are reaching their inevitable end. So far in 2018, Canada's gas and oil industry has tumbled more than 6%. This is incredibly dangerous considering Canada's vast dependence on oil like many other absurdly centrally planned countries. Canadian stocks are trading at their lowest since October. The chart shows free fall. Meanwhile Canadians are being taxed on income at a shocking rate while corporate taxes stay almost entirely unchanged. Interesting coming from a government that claimed they wanted to lift the lower class and stop big corporate monopolies. Funny enough, the massive corporations continue to be propped up by government regulations and taxes while small businesses are forced out of the market as they simply cannot compete against the government's favoring of major corporations. This is why we need to look to ourselves for self sustainability and financial responsibility. Responsibility period. That is after all the hallmark of freedom as we so often mention here at WAM. Stay tuned as we continue to report on this. We are seeing stocks fall fast in the U.S. at the same time. It's times like this where proper preparation comes in handy. NYSE vs NASDAQ - who has more "mega cap" listings?

04:16
The two biggest stock exchanges in the world, in terms of total market capitalization value of the shares listed, are the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the NASDAQ. But which of these two stock exchanges has the highest number of “mega caps”? Take your guess and find out in this Finance Storyteller video. Historically, the NYSE has always had the largest total market capitalization of companies listed, while the NASDAQ allows a far larger number of companies to be listed, particularly those that may be too small to meet the requirements of the NYSE. The NASDAQ also has far lower listing fees than the NYSE. What are “mega cap” companies? Well, these are the Big Dogs! A “mega cap” is a company with a market capitalization exceeding $100 billion, some would even say exceeding $200 billion. Let’s take a look at a subset of the top 25 companies in the world in terms of market capitalization, in the middle of May 2017. 15 out of these 25 companies have their primary listing in the US, so on either the NYSE or NASDAQ. How The World Cup Affects The Stock Market

03:11
How The World Cup Affects The Stock Market http://thedaytradingacademy.com/day-trading/how-world-cup-affects-stock-market The world cup can definitely affect the stock market. Not only the markets in the United States but also the markets around the world. Bloomberg reports that the local stock exchanges of Chile lost upwards of 99% of it's volume when the Chilean national team played. In Argentina and Brazilian stock markets, the world cup affected drops in volume of 80% and 75%. Even Europe and the United States were affected. Europe was roughly 40% while the US was 38%. We could expect a drop in volume in the stock markets during the world. As long as we do not have any major news or catastrophes around the world then the World Cup could definitely affect the stock market in a big way. Thankfully, this year the World Cup is during Eastern US time zones which means that most of the games are held in the latter part of the morning, afternoons and evenings. Compared to last year in South Africa the games were held much earlier. Look forward to see how the World Cup are going to affect the stock markets around the world. Stock exchanges

03:23
(Today, this is somewhat outdated...) The NYSE Another way of looking at stocks is by where the stocks are traded. Most of the large blue chip stocks are traded on the New York Stock Exchange. The NYSE, also called the Big Board, lists about 3,000 firms, including many foreign companies. The NYSE uses an auction method of trading stocks where a so-called specialist matches buy and sell orders. AMEX This method of trading stocks is also seen on the American Stock Exchange, or AMEX. The AMEX is smaller than the NYSE, and the AMEX lists a relatively large number of energy companies. NASDAQ The Big Board's main competitor, however, is the NASDAQ market. Although NASDAQ lists 5,000 companies, or 2,000 more companies than the NYSE, the total market capitalization of the Big Board is larger than NASDAQ. This is because NASDAQ lists smaller, newer companies. However, many multi-billion dollar companies like Intel and Microsoft are listed on NASDAQ. NASDAQ, however, uses a different method of trading stocks. Unlike the NYSE, NASDAQ does not use specialists to match buy and sell orders. Instead, NASDAQ features a number of so-called market makers. These market makers must offer bid and ask prices for those stocks that they make a market in. A number of market makers are supposed to maintain an orderly and competitive market, and market makers can keep inventories of stocks. In fact, the ability to buy and sell stocks from their inventory gives market makers a good chance to make money. The over-the-counter market In addition to the NASDAQ, there's the so-called over-the-counter market. This market includes nearly 30,000 publicly traded companies, but the trading volume of these stocks is low. Prices of these stocks used to be published on pink paper, so these stocks are still sometimes called pink sheet stocks. These stocks aren't listed on any of the major exchanges, but they are still publicly traded. Many of these stocks are low-priced, so-called penny stocks. Penny stocks If you ever get a cold call from a broker trying to sell you a fast-rising but unknown company, think twice before buying the stock. Many of these stocks are thinly traded, so it's easy for a few people to ramp up the price of the stock by trading the stock amongst themselves. This can produce spectacular price increases, and provides evidence that the stock can "only go up". On the way up the original investors cash out as pushy brokers sell the stock to outside investors who provide the escape mechanism. However, after the original speculators leave, trading volume in the stock dries up, and the outsiders are left holding expensive shares that they can't sell to anyone at any price. There are many excellent, small companies that aren't listed on the major stock exchanges, but unless you know what you're doing here's a good piece of advice : Don't buy any stock whose value you can't determine by looking it up in your local newspaper. These mistakes I highlight in this video are probably things you haven't heard before. Luckily we can flip these points around and come up with a very powerful trading strategy. Charlie Munger once said, "problems frequently become easier to solve if you turn them around in reverse... unless you're more gifted than Einstein, inversion will help you solve problems". A Stock Market Big Enough to Stretch Across the Atlantic

04:01
I'm Alex Villarreal with the VOA Special English Economics Report, from http://voaspecialenglish.com | http://facebook.com/voalearningenglish A ten-billion-dollar deal aims to create the world's largest exchange company. The plan would combine the operators of the New York Stock Exchange and Germany's Frankfurt Stock Exchange. The two companies, NYSE Euronext and Deutsche Borse, announced the agreement in February. Deutsche Borse shareholders would own about sixty percent of the combined group. One thing it still needs is a name. The new company would have headquarters in Frankfurt and New York City. The New York Stock Exchange is the world's most famous stock market and a symbol of American capitalism. Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner says New York will remain at the heart of the world's financial system for a long time to come. But the exchange business has changed in these days of high-speed trading by computers in a globally connected economy. The Big Board now has to compete with smaller exchanges. Where stocks are traded has become less important than how much those trades cost.NYSE Euronext and Deutsche Borse had profits of almost four and a half billion dollars last year. They expect to save four hundred million dollars a year by combining their operations. These savings could lower the cost of stock orders. But the size of the company could raise concerns about competition in the exchange industry. The new company would also have trading operations in Britain, France and other European countries.Stock trading and other financial services would remain important to the combined company. But much of its income is expected to come from trading complex financial products called derivatives. The deal requires approval by American and European officials and by shareholders. Other exchange operators, like the CME Group, could try to offer a higher price for NYSE Euronext. The CME Group, operator of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, is one of the world's largest traders of derivatives. Duncan Niederauer, chief executive of NYSE Euronext, is expected to keep that job in the new company. He says combining with Deutsche Borse will make the company more competitive. In February, the operators of the London and Toronto stock exchanges announced a deal to combine their companies. And in October the Singapore Exchange offered to merge with Australia's exchange. For VOA Special English I'm Alex Villarreal. (Adapted from a radio program broadcast 18Feb2011)

Stock exchanges also provide facilities for issue and redemption of securities and other financial instruments, and capital events including the payment of income and dividends. Securities traded on a stock exchange include stock issued by listed companies, unit trusts, derivatives, pooled investment products and bonds. Stock exchanges often function as "continuous auction" markets, with buyers and sellers consummating transactions at a central location, such as the floor of the exchange. To be able to trade a security on a certain stock exchange, it must be listed there. Usually, there is a central location at least for record keeping, but trade is increasingly less linked to such a physical place, as modern markets are electronic networks, which gives them advantages of increased speed and reduced cost of transactions. Trade on an exchange is by members only. The initial public offering of stocks and bonds to investors is by definition done in the primary market and subsequent trading is done in the secondary market. A stock exchange is often the most important component of a stock market. Supply and demand in stock markets are driven by various factors that, as in all free markets, affect the price of stocks (see stock valuation). There is usually no compulsion to issue stock via the stock exchange itself, nor must stock be subsequently traded on the exchange. Such trading is said to be off exchange or over-the-counter. This is the usual way that derivatives and bonds are traded. Increasingly, stock exchanges are part of a global market for securities. In recent years, various other trading venues, such as electronic communication networks, alternative trading systems and "dark pools" have taken much of the trading activity away from traditional stock exchanges... The Dutch East India Company, formed to build up the spice trade, operated as a colonial ruler... Control of the company was held tightly by its directors, with ordinary shareholders not having much influence on management or even access to the company's accounting statements. However, shareholders were rewarded well for their investment. The company paid an average dividend of over 16 percent per year from 1602 to 1650. Financial innovation in Amsterdam took many forms. In 1609, investors led by one Isaac Le Maire formed history's first bear syndicate, but their coordinated trading had only a modest impact in driving down share prices, which tended to be robust throughout the 17th century. By the 1620s, the company was expanding its securities issuance with the first use of corporate bonds. Joseph de la Vega, also known as Joseph Penso de la Vega and by other variations of his name, was an Amsterdam trader from a Spanish Jewish family and a prolific writer as well as a successful businessman in 17th-century Amsterdam. His 1688 book Confusion of Confusions... was the earliest book about stock trading... William sought to modernize England's finances to pay for its wars, and thus the kingdom's first government bonds were issued in 1693 and the Bank of England was set up the following year. Soon thereafter, English joint-stock companies began going public. London's first stockbrokers, however, were barred from the old commercial center known as the Royal Exchange, reportedly because of their rude manners. Instead, the new trade was conducted from coffee houses along Exchange Alley. By 1698, a broker named John Castaing, operating out of Jonathan's Coffee House, was posting regular lists of stock and commodity prices. Those lists mark the beginning of the London Stock Exchange... and by the 1790s shares were being traded in the young United States...

What is The NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) ?

01:48
Welcome to the Investors Trading Academy talking glossary of financial terms and events. Our word of the day is the “NYSE” The New York Stock Exchange, often referred to as NYSE and "The Big Board," is the largest stock exchange by market capitalization in the world. Home to more than 2,800 companies with a combined value of more than $15 trillion, the NYSE relies on face-to-face trades, rather than electronic trades. The NYSE began in 1792, when 24 stockbrokers gathered under a buttonwood tree on Wall Street to sign an agreement that established the rules for buying and selling bonds and shares of companies. This agreement, or the Buttonwood Agreement, was named after the tree. The NYSE is the oldest and largest stock exchange in the U.S., located on Wall Street in New York City. The NYSE is responsible for setting policy, supervising member activities, listing securities, overseeing the transfer of member seats, and evaluating applicants. Unlike some of the newer exchanges, the NYSE still uses a large trading floor in order to conduct its transactions. It is here that the representatives of buyers and sellers, professionals known as brokers, meet and shout out prices at one another in order to strike a deal. This is called the open outcry system and it usually produces fair market pricing. In order to facilitate the exchange of stocks, the NYSE employs individuals called specialists who are assigned to manage the buying and selling of specific stocks and to buy those stocks when no one else will. 10 Signs Of The Collapse! Prepare For The Imminent Economic Collapse 2018 Stock Market CRASH!

12:06
Shocking video of the coming Economic Collapse and the next Great Depression. There have not been so many trouble signs for the global economy in a past few months.  Analysts are sounding the alarm about junk bond defaults, the smart money is getting out of stocks at an astounding rate, mortgage rates are absolutely skyrocketing, and Europe is heading to a full blown economic meltdown.  Of course expectations that another global economic collapse will happen among the general population are probably low right now, but the reality of the matter is that we are probably closer to a new one erupting than at any point since the last economic collapse and stock market crash in 2008.  Since the last financial crisis our long-term debt problems have just continued to grow, and there are many that believe that the next economic crisis will actually be far worse than what we experienced ten years ago. Definition Of Economic Collapse: An economic collapse is essentially a severe version of an economic depression, where an economy is in complete distress for years, or possibly even decades. A total economic collapse is characterized by economic depression, civil unrest and highly increased poverty levels. The Great Depression in the United States is a prime example of an economic collapse. The 1929 stock market crash brought on a collapse that lasted for many years and saw high levels of poverty. Well-known economist John Maynard Keynes claimed this was from the total lack of government involvement in the economy or the financial markets. Definition Of Stock Market Crash: A stock market crash is a sudden dramatic decline of stock prices across a significant cross-section of a stock market, resulting in a significant loss of paper wealth. Crashes are driven by panic as much as by underlying economic factors. They often follow speculative stock market bubbles. Music: CO.AG Music https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcavSftXHgxLBWwLDm_bNvA

What Is A Stock Exchange - A Beginners Guide

06:58
Brought to you by http://www.HowToInvestInShares.co.uk - the subject of this video is: What Is A Stock Exchange? 0:26 Stock Exchange vs Stock Market 1:00 Why Have A Stock Exchange? 2:54 Starbucks... But Not As We Know It 3:05 London Stock Exchange 3:25 New York Stock Exchange 3:48 NASDAQ & Electronic Trading 5:47 Summary 6:09 More information and FREE Guide at http://www.HowToInvestInShares.co.uk Stock exchange and stock market are very similar terms, very similar concepts, but there is a slight difference. A stock exchange is a mechanism or a system or method for swapping or doing the act of buying and selling our stocks and shares in the market. Stock exchanges were born many years ago and brought about by traders who were shipping their goods overseas, wanting to get some security or insurance for the trade. In those very early days, shipping was a very dangerous business, a very risky business. Putting your goods on a boat and then letting it set sail, it could be weeks or months until it got over to the other side of the world and the trader therefore wanted some sort of method of making sure they didn't lose all their stock. So they would insure their stock. For an insurer, that is a lot of money in one big sum so they would break that sum up into small pieces and issue those as smaller pieces, or bonds (an IOUs) to investors. So basically, this was a mechanism of getting a number of investors to put up money for a shipment. It was many years later when a company wanted to do the same thing and get investors on board. So it broke its company up into shares. That's how bonds and shares are slightly different. It was back in 1760 when the first stock exchange was formed in the city of London in the UK. In those days, these bonds for all these shipping trips and their transacting was typically done in a number of coffee houses in the city of London, would you believe? For shares, the focus was a particular coffee house known as Jonathon's Coffee House. But it wasn't until 1773 when the place was renamed as the London Stock Exchange and at the time it was the first example of a stock exchange in the world set up to trade company shares. Although the London Stock Exchange is the first ever stock exchange in the world and therefore it is the oldest, it is no longer the biggest. The biggest is the New York Stock Exchange formed at 11 Wall Street in New York in 1792. Stock exchanges in those days were physical markets. So in order to trade you had to be physically at the market. However, with the advent of computers in the 20th century, nowadays it is computers that do the physical trading and exchanging. There is no need for people to be physically on the trading floor any more like they used to be in the early days. In fact it was the NASDAQ in 1971 that was formed as the first ever fully computerised stock exchange. So the NASDAQ didn't need a location like the London Stock Exchange or the New York Stock Exchange. The NASDAQ, right from its inception, was an electronic only trading platform. Indeed, in order to keep up with the NASDAQ, all these other stock exchanges I've mentioned already and many others in other countries around the world have needed to computerise. The advantage of an electronic exchange, of course, over a physical stock exchange is that the dealers, the brokers, the market makers - the people who trade the shares in the market don't physically need to be at a given site. They can trade electronically and they can be remote from the physical place where it used to take place. The other major advantage as an investor is that it is all done electronically and therefore it is a lot slicker, a lot quicker. It is instant, pretty much instant, nowadays and you can see this information on-line and hence why there has been a massive growth in on-line brokers for buying and selling shares. Tony Robbins Warns "The Crash is Coming"

12:45
NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Financial guru Tony Robbins says plan now for what's to come. Things may be looking rosy on Wall Street as of late, but the crash will come. "We are in a really artificial situation. There is a new high, on average, every month. Feds around the world have been printing money," said Robbins. In his new book, Unshakeable, he breaks down what to do when things go bad. "Instead of selling, you want to stay. The stock market is the only thing that goes on sale for 50 percent off and everyone panics. A bear market is the greatest opportunity of your life. In two centuries of American history, a bear market is always followed by a bull market," said Robbins. Two moves to make when things go south: 1. You have to become an owner not just a consumer. If you own an iPhone, you should own Apple (stock). 2. Understand the power of compounding. Keeping your money in the market will lead to big returns in the long run. 100 percent of proceeds from 'Unshakeable' will go towards Feed America. "We fed 100 million people last year. In this country, 47 million people go to sleep each night not knowing if they'll get a meal in the morning," said Robbins.
