The English Reformation (Henry VIII and the Church of England)

10:31
http://www.tomrichey.net When the Protestant Reformation began, Henry VIII opposed Martin Luther and sided with the Catholic Church. This changed when his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, did not provide him with a live son to inherit his kingdom. Henry VIII asked the Pope for an annulment (since the Catholic Church does not recognize divorce, per se) and decided to leave the Catholic Church when his request was rejected. Parliament passed the Act of Supremacy in 1534, which declared Henry to be the "Supreme Head" of the Church of England. As Supreme Head of the Church of England, Henry dissolved the monasteries and sold Church lands to generate revenue. He also divorced Catherine and married Ann Boleyn. As far as doctrine, however, Henry did very little, making his Reformation the most conservative of the Reformation movements. I will be posting Part 2 of this lecture soon, in which I will address the progress of the Reformation during reigns of Henry's children.

FINALLY the queen publicly admits it, and the Muslims love it.

22:10
Folks ! we are living in the last days before the Lord returns, and the Illuminati are going into overdrive, to try and bring about their NWO. To bad for them it will only last 7 short years. There will be no 1000 year mil-lineal reign for their antichrist. Their god Lucifer will be bound in chains in Hell, for almost the entire time. Only Jesus Christ will rule the world during the coming 1000 year mi-lineal period, and it will be a time of universal peace on earth. Lucifer's time will not come again, until near the end of the 1000 year reign of Jesus Christ, at this time Lucifer will be loosed from the pit once again, to try, test and temp, all who are upon the earth at that time. After this Lucifer the Devil will be cast into the lake of fire for ever. AMEN to that. The Queen has instructed BBC News to begin pushing this idea in the Muslim world, that she is the descendant of Muhammad. After reviewing the various Islamic traditions and opinions of the Muslim scholars, let’s now review and walk through a list of what we have learned about the person and the mission of the Mahdi as he exists in the minds of many of the 1.3 billion Muslims worldwide. The Mahdi is Islam’s primary messiah figure. He will be a descendant of Muhammad He will be a very devout Muslim. (Prince William owns an Islamic center, in Prince William county) He will be an unparalleled spiritual, political and military world leader. He will emerge after a period of great turmoil and suffering upon the earth. He will establish justice and righteousness throughout the world and eradicate tyranny and oppression. He will be the Caliph and Imam (vice-regent and leader) of Muslims worldwide He will lead a world revolution and establish a new world order. He will lead military action against all those who oppose him. He will invade many countries. He will make a seven year peace treaty with a Jew of priestly lineage. He will conquer Israel for Islam and lead the “faithful Muslims” in a final slaughter/battle against Jews. He will establish the new Islamic world headquarters from Jerusalem. He will rule for seven years (possibly as much as eight or nine). He will cause Islam to be the only religion practiced on the earth. He will appear riding a white horse (possibly symbolic). He will discover some previously undiscovered biblical manuscripts that he will use to argue with the Jews and cause some Jews to convert to Islam. He will also re-discover the Ark of the Covenant from the Sea of Galilee, which he will bring to Jerusalem. He will have supernatural power from Allah over the wind and the rain and crops. He will possess and distribute enormous amounts of wealth. He will be loved by all the people of the earth. SUMMARY ======= The monarchy of the United Kingdom, commonly referred to as the British monarchy, is the constitutional monarchy of the United Kingdom, its dependencies and its overseas territories. The current monarch and head of state, Queen Elizabeth II, ascended the throne on the death of her father, King George VI, on 6 February 1952. The monarch and his or her immediate family undertake various official, ceremonial, diplomatic and representational duties. As the monarchy is constitutional, the monarch is limited to non-partisan functions such as bestowing honours and appointing the Prime Minister. The monarch is commander-in-chief of the British Armed Forces. Though the ultimate formal executive authority over the government of the United Kingdom is still by and through the monarch's royal prerogative, these powers may only be used according to laws enacted in Parliament and, in practice, within the constraints of convention and precedent. The British monarchy traces its origins from the petty kingdoms of early medieval Scotland and Anglo-Saxon England, which consolidated into the kingdoms of England and Scotland by the 10th century AD. In 1066, the last crowned Anglo-Saxon monarch, Harold Godwinson, was defeated and killed during the Norman conquest of England and the English monarchy passed to the Normans' victorious leader, William the Conqueror, and his descendants. From the 1080s, the lordships of South Wales were held by a succession of Norman families inter-married with older Welsh houses loyal to the English throne, with many lordships also held by the English King in his own right. The process was completed in the 13th century when the north of Wales, as a principality, became a client state of the English kingdom, while Magna Carta began a process of reducing the English monarch's political powers. From 1603, when the Scottish monarch James VI inherited the English throne as James I, both the English and Scottish kingdoms were ruled by a single sovereign. From 1649 to 1660, the tradition of monarchy was broken by the republican Commonwealth of England, which followed the Wars of the Three Kingdoms. The Act of Settlement 1701 excluded Roman Catholics, or those who married Catholics, from succession to the English throne. In 1707, the kingdoms of England and Scotland were merged to create the Kingdom of Great Britain, and in 1801, the Kingdom of Ireland joined to create the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. The British monarch became nominal head of the vast British Empire, which covered a quarter of the world's surface at its greatest extent in 1921. In the early 1920s, five-sixths of Ireland seceded from the Union as the Irish Free State, and the Balfour Declaration recognised the evolution of the dominions of the empire into separate, self-governing countries within a Commonwealth of Nations. After the Second World War, the vast majority of British colonies and territories became independent, effectively bringing the empire to an end. George VI and his successor, Elizabeth II, adopted the title Head of the Commonwealth as a symbol of the free association of its independent member states. The United Kingdom and fifteen other Commonwealth monarchies that share the same person as their monarch are called Commonwealth realms. The terms British monarchy and British monarch are frequently still employed in reference to the shared individual and institution; however, each country is sovereign and independent of the others, and the monarch has a different, specific, and official national title and style for each realm.

Monarchy of New Zealand | Wikipedia audio article

This is an audio version of the Wikipedia Article: Monarchy of New Zealand Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago. This video uses Google TTS en-US-Standard-D voice. SUMMARY ======= The monarchy of New Zealand is the constitutional system of government in which a hereditary monarch is the sovereign and head of state of New Zealand. The current monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, ascended the throne on the death of her father, King George VI, on 6 February 1952. All executive authority is vested in the monarch and her assent is required for parliament to enact laws and for letters patent and Orders in Council to have legal effect. However, the authority for these acts stems from the New Zealand populace and, within the conventional stipulations of constitutional monarchy, the sovereign's direct participation in any of these areas of governance is limited. Most of the related powers are exercised by the elected parliamentarians, the ministers of the Crown generally drawn from amongst them, and the judges and justices of the peace. Other powers vested in the monarch, such as the appointment of a prime minister, are significant, but are treated only as reserve powers and as an important security part of the role of the monarchy. The New Zealand monarchy has its roots in the British Crown, from which it has evolved to become a distinctly New Zealand institution, represented by unique symbols. New Zealand's monarch is today shared equally with 15 other countries within the Commonwealth of Nations, all being independent and the monarchy of each legally distinct. As a result, the current monarch is officially titled Queen of New Zealand (Māori: Kuini o Aotearoa) and, in this capacity, she, her consort, and other members of the Royal Family undertake various public and private functions across New Zealand and on behalf of the country abroad. However, the Queen is the only member of the Royal Family with any constitutional role. While several powers are the sovereign's alone, because she lives predominantly in the United Kingdom, most of the royal constitutional and ceremonial duties in the Realm of New Zealand are typically carried out by the Queen's viceregal representative, the governor-general. The role of the monarchy in New Zealand is a recurring topic of public discussion.

The Royal Family Has Announced Some Upsetting News – And It’s Left Queen Elizabeth Heartbroken

08:35
Please do not forget to visit the site http://scribol.com ************************************************************** In 2017 Queen Elizabeth II reached an impressive 91 years of age. What’s more, she’s the longest-reigning monarch of all time, having outlasted even her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria. And as would be expected, she’s seen a lot of tragedy throughout her long life. Not only has she lived through wars and disasters, for instance, but she’s also experienced a great deal of personal loss: she’s outlived her sister, her mother, her one-time daughter-in-law, Princess Diana, and a lot of her beloved pets. Now her time has come, it seems, to consider what will happen after she, too, passes away. The Queen is, of course, very different from your average elderly lady. She commands an amount of wealth, privilege and power that’s unfathomable to most ordinary people. And when she dies, this power will pass to her eldest son, Prince Charles. He in turn will pass his inheritance to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. It’s an age-old system that will, most likely, last for a good many years to come. And it’s likely partly because of this system that the Queen keeps her thoughts and opinions – and her likes and dislikes – very firmly to herself. Although details leak out from the Palace every so often – apparently Her Majesty owns an iPod and enjoys Nintendo Wii games – no one except her family members and her staff know what she’s really like. However, the world is aware of one very important aspect of her character. Yes, everybody knows that the Queen adores her Corgis, and all sorts of Royal Family merchandise is adorned with the cute little animals. Indeed, you can buy your own cuddly corgis at the official Buckingham Palace gift shop. And when the Queen made a very rare “comedic” appearance in a skit for the 2012 Olympics, accompanied by actor Daniel Craig, three corgis – Willow, Monty and Holly – were also given starring roles. In fact, it’s a rare occasion if pop culture portrayals of the Queen don’t include the corgis. They’ve shown up – played by duplicate doggies, obviously – in films as diverse as apocalypse blockbuster 2012, spy comedy Johnny English and The BFG. And they appear, of course, in the 2006 Oscar-winning biopic The Queen. Fans of the Royal Family, too, have had tremendous fun looking out for and identifying the corgis over the years. Many of the dogs, for instance, have made appearances in magazines, and they have had a fun variety of silly names that royal-watchers love. Among the names the Queen has chosen for her pups are: “Sugar,” “Tiny,” “Brush” and even “Candy.” Interestingly, the Queen’s relationship with her precious dogs has lasted even longer than that with her husband. In 1933, in fact, Her Majesty was still a little girl no doubt unaware of what the future had in store when her parents bought a corgi named Dookie. Young Elizabeth quickly fell in love with the dog, and a decade later she got one of her own, a Pembroke corgi called Susan. Susan was to follow her wherever she went, even on her honeymoon. However, Susan was a bit of a troublemaker. During her time at Buckingham Palace, for instance, she bit four people, including a policeman. But she also became the matriarch of a vast dynasty of puppies, including some who were crossbred to make “dorgis,” a dachshund-corgi cross. So when Susan died in 1959, the Queen designed the gravestone for her beloved pet herself. The memorial read “Susan, died 26th Jan 1959. For almost 15 years the faithful companion of the Queen.” Of course, Queen Elizabeth isn’t the only monarch who’s dearly loved her pets. Queen Victoria had several, in fact, her favorite being a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Dash. She fell in love with her husband Prince Albert only after noting that he treated the dog well, and when Dash eventually died, she had a grand marble tombstone built for him at Windsor Home Park. However, although Queen Victoria passed a love of dogs onto her descendants, Queen Elizabeth ended up as the only person in her immediate family who adored corgis quite as much as she did. Even her son, Charles, it seems, has a pretty indifferent attitude towards them. Indeed, during a 2012 interview with the BBC, he couldn’t recognize Susan for certain when he was played a video of the dog. ************************************************************** ►You can support the channel: PATREON https://goo.gl/KtaKrp ►web: http://watchjojo.com ► SUBSCRIBE US: https://goo.gl/Z4nZcg ► Follow Us On Google Plus: https://goo.gl/JYf9Rr ► Like us Our Facebook Page: https://goo.gl/C5Rv92 ► Follow On Twitter: https://goo.gl/PZ2U1R ►For more articles visit: http://scribol.com ►Article link: https://goo.gl/YpxuVE #watchjojo

The Stuart Monarchs (James I, Charles I, Charles II, James II) and John Locke's ideas are also discussed. Part of my Intensive Review series for the South Carolina End of Course (EOC) exam in U.S. History Standard 1.2: Analyze the early development of representative government and political rights in the American colonies, including the influence of the British political system and the rule of law as written in the Magna Carta and the English Bill of Rights, and the conflict between the colonial legislatures and the British Parliament over the right to tax that resulted in the American Revolutionary War.

6 Royal Rules Princess Diana Didn't Follow

10:01
It's no secret that Princess Diana continues to be a symbol of the British royal family for many people. She quickly changed the image of a princess from something haughty and unearthly to someone who is just like us. But even more so, she changed some of the ultimate rules of the monarchy! But which well-established rules did she boldly break? Let's find out! TIMESTAMPS: She chose her engagement ring by herself 1:21 She became the first woman in the royal family to deliver her babies outside the palace 2:11 She had her own opinions on how to raise her children 3:03 She was very open with “regular” people 4:51 She wasn't afraid to reveal her feelings 6:02 She experimented with her looks 7:10 How exactly did all of Princess Diana's actions change the monarchy? 8:10 Preview photo credit: HRH PRINCE CHARLES and LADY DIANA SPENCER - An informal study of Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer, whose wedding will take place at St Pauls Cathedral, London, on 29th July 1981 - Date: 26.07.1981. Ref: B39_084926_0026: By Bandphoto/UPPA/Photoshot fot. Photoshot/REPORTER, https://www.eastnews.ru/pictures/picture/id/19241786/i/0/t/0 Animation is created by Bright Side. Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music SUMMARY: - She chose her ring from a catalog! Of course, it didn’t make it any less gorgeous, but, as Diana herself noted, it was still far from the most expensive ring out there. Now her jewelry has passed on to Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, the wife of her son Prince William. - Princess Diana gave birth to both of her children in a hospital. Now royal mothers-to-be follow in Diana's footsteps, including the Duchess of Cambridge: she gave birth to all 3 of her children in the same hospital where Princess Diana delivered her sons. - She was against long separations, and that’s why little William and Harry always traveled with their parents when they were performing their duties. - Pretty much everyone who remembers Princess Diana associates her name with kindness. Of course, she wasn't the only one who visited hospitals and did humanitarian work, but she was the only one who did it with extreme sincerity and openness. So it wasn't long before the public started to call her “The People’s Princess.” - In 1995, she secretly gave an interview in which she confessed to having some difficulties in her relationship with her husband. Unfortunately, soon after this interview aired, the couple divorced. - Princess Diana was the icon of her time and one of the biggest fashion icons of all time too! She wasn't afraid to break the strict royal dress code and always managed to look elegant, trendy, and beautiful. - The Queen and her associates learned one important lesson: the existence of the monarchy in the UK depends on public opinion. As a result, the royal family has become way more open. 10 Times Prince Harry EMBARRASSED The Royal Family

10 Most Innapropriate Prince Harry Moments. Subscribe: https://goo.gl/Hnoaw3 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Some people say that the royals are like celebrities. In a way, they are. We watch them in the same way. But the British royals aren’t allowed to make mistakes like regular celebrities. They are supposed to be examples for all of the United Kingdom. But Prince Harry hasn’t always lived up to his title. Here are 10 of the Most Inappropriate Prince Harry Moments. Take his drinking for instance. Lots of people like to have a few drinks now and then, but Harry was drinking before he was of legal age. By the time he was 17, his father put him in rehab for his alcohol and drug use. Rehab is probably the last place anyone would expect to find a prince. He also dressed up as a German WWII Soldier for a costume party one year. After the pictures surfaced, the prince started receiving lots of backlash for his insensitive costume. He immediately apologized for offending anyone. The prince has also been accused of being cruel to animals. At a polo match, it appeared that his horse had been hurt and was bleeding. Several people who were at the match claim that the prince continued to ride the horse, even after it was hurt. Reps for the prince say that once he noticed the condition of the horse, he sat out the rest of the match. No official reports of what happened have been released. Whether it’s his all-night partying, his risque photos, or his bad boy past, there have been a lot of moments in Prince Harry’s life that are just not very princely. Stay tuned to 10 Most Inappropriate Prince Harry Moments to see why one teacher accused him of cheating his way through school. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheTalko Twitter: https://twitter.com/thetalko Instagram: https://instagram.com/the_talko ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.thetalko.com/

Prince Charles Descendant Of Vlad the Impaler and Many Others

13:48
A Very Interesting Bloodline Indeed – How Prince Charles is Related to Vlad the Impaler. When you are descended from the likes of Henry VIII, and Queen Victoria, it takes quite something to get you excited about a new addition to your family tree. But when Prince Charles found out he was related to Dracula, or, to give him his actual name, Vlad the Impaler, he was more than a little delighted. Prince Charles discovered the link to the notorious killer – who is said to have covered a hill, near Brasov, with so many impaled men, it looked like a forest, after he made his first trip to Romania in 1998. It is believed that Queen Mary, consort of George V, Charles’ great grandfather, was related to the 15th Century slayer, and the Prince of Wales certainly seems delighted by the idea. Quote: The genealogy shows, I am descended from Vlad the Impaler, so I do have a bit of a stake in the country,’ he said in a 2011 documentary, on the Carpathian Mountains. In fact, it seems the two share blood through Vlad Dracula’s father, Vlad II Dracul, according to Nick Gombash Hungarian genealogy blog. That’s not to say Vlad the older wasn’t any less terrible than his son. Vlad II, the prince of Wallachia, is known to have killed a number of people, from a rival princely house, as he tried to consolidate power, and sent Vlad the younger to be a hostage at the age of 13 – which one imagines did little to help father-son relations. I. Mohamed Al-Fayed: “The British Dracula Family” + Correlations; II. Prince Charles: “I am Dracula’s Descendant” + The British royal family investing in Transylvania + Interested in Romania’s Crown; III. The Reptilian Correlations; I ask those who are not familiar to my articles to be patient and read all the connections. Things may seem to be out-of-this-world at first, but I promise you that everything will perfectly tie together, as you’ll continue reading. I. Al-Fayed’s Accusations: “The British Dracula Family”, “Gold Digger” and “Crocodile Wife” This lesson begun this morning and culminated with an older interview of Mohamed Al-Fayed, father of murdered Dodi Al-Fayed (Lady Diana’s lover), where he was openly accusing the British Royal Crown of assassinating his son and Lady Di. His frustration made him reveal bits of secrets regarding the origins of the British blue bloods:

Royal wedding gives me such hope for the Monarchy says ROBERT LACEY

Royal wedding gives me such hope for the Monarchy says ROBERT LACEY: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5749349/Harry-Meghans-wedding-gives-hope-Monarchy-says-ROBERT-LACEY.html. Thanks for watching, subscribe for more videos: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqi7z1Xa_8CBhQStlApH8ww?sub_confirmation=1 As Britain’s newest and most dazzling Duchess was taking her final non-royal steps along the aisle of St George’s Chapel yesterday, her route passed over the tomb of King George III (1760-1820), the last King of North America. What would he have made, one wonders, of this fresh young American recruit to his centuries-old dynasty? The chapel, the trumpets, the oaths and the rituals, the clip-clopping horses and the cheering crowds: on the surface, the trademarks of British monarchy have changed very little in the 250 years since ‘Mad King George’ came to the throne. The pomp and circumstance, along with the veneer of royal names, titles and palaces, look largely the same – from the outside. But from the inside, things have changed profoundly. It is one of the cunning survival devices of our ever-adaptable Royal Family. The trick is to stay looking modern. An institution that once embodied unquestioned, sacred authority, is now a matter of largely secular, democratic choice. The crown that reigned supreme now survives at the people’s pleasure – and it must keep pleasing the people if it wants to stay in business.. The qualities that would once have disqualified Meghan from any respectable royal contact, let alone marriage, are now seen as brilliant new assets and priorities that make her perfect for the job. Many ‘ancient’ traditions were, at one point, radical new departures.Take Queen Victoria’s wedding to Prince Albert in 1840, for example. Until then, it was customary for brides to wear bright and colourful dresses that could be recycled on later occasions.  But Victoria chose to wear white on the day because it highlighted the delicate lace of her gown so beautifully – and, hey presto, brides of every class and purchasing power started wearing white in imitation. The all-white bridal gown soon came to seem mandatory.Royal weddings went more public 18 years later when that Queen’s eldest daughter, Princess Victoria, married Frederick, the future King of Prussia and German Emperor. The wedding party went out to salute the crowds from the balcony of Buckingham Palace, and the balcony scene became a staple of royal weddings thereafter – except when held at Windsor. There are battlements a-plenty around Windsor castle, but no plaza exists where the crowds can safely gather. Hence yesterday’s very earliest royal post-marital kiss on record, as we all watched on television – straight after the service on the steps outside the chapel. Meghan must be constantly watching the Queen. When the Queen stands, she has to stand. When the Queen finishes eating, everyone must be finished eating. It doesn’t matter if Meghan is halfway through her meal or just began. When the Queen is done, she has to put down her utensils also. Meghan must stop taking selfies in public. Not that she does it too often, but we are all guilty of taking a selfie or two. This, however, is not the image that the royal family wants to portray. So from now on, all selfies will be for private use only. Sad news for all of us who follow her Instagram account. Religious Tolerance in Catholic Monarchy

06:33
Tom - I am trying to undo my classical liberal view of government and consider a Catholic monarchy. How would a monarchy that acknowledges Catholicism as the true religion handle other religions? Would (and should) religious freedom/tolerance exist? GK Chesterton on Democracy & Monarchy

07:25
Super fan David Plitt - Would Mr. Coulombe help to clear up my understanding of G K Chesterton's views on democracy and monarchism as political systems? In various writings, GKC is both critical and complimentary of both - if only indirectly. One GKC quote comes to mind: "I am for democracy, a democracy of the living and the dead!" Also, in various writings, he is extremely and consistently critical of the English aristocracy - which I suppose I've always taken to include his being critical of the English monarchy in general. In this video I look at the latest statistics, alongside a pool of some other statistics from recent years, to discuss the trends of the last three decades and the implications for a country where around 25% of pupils are educated at archaic state-funded "faith schools", where Anglican bishops get automatic places in our legislature and where the head of state is the supreme governor of a religious sect. SUMMARY ======= A constitutional monarchy is a form of monarchy in which the sovereign exercises authority in accordance with a written or unwritten constitution. Constitutional monarchy differs from absolute monarchy (in which a monarch holds absolute power), in that constitutional monarchs are bound to exercise their powers and authorities within the limits prescribed within an established legal framework. Constitutional monarchies range from countries such as Morocco, where the constitution grants substantial discretionary powers to the sovereign, to countries such as Japan and Sweden where the monarch retains no formal authorities. Constitutional monarchy may refer to a system in which the monarch acts as a non-party political head of state under the constitution, whether written or unwritten. While most monarchs may hold formal authority and the government may legally operate in the monarch's name, in the form typical in Europe the monarch no longer personally sets public policy or chooses political leaders. Political scientist Vernon Bogdanor paraphrasing Thomas Macaulay, has defined a constitutional monarch as "A sovereign who reigns but does not rule".In addition to acting as a visible symbol of national unity, a constitutional monarch may hold formal powers such as dissolving parliament or giving royal assent to legislation. However, the exercise of such powers is largely strictly in accordance with either written constitutional principles or unwritten constitutional conventions, rather than any personal political preference imposed by the sovereign. In The English Constitution, British political theorist Walter Bagehot identified three main political rights which a constitutional monarch may freely exercise: the right to be consulted, the right to encourage, and the right to warn. Many constitutional monarchies still retain significant authorities or political influence however, such as through certain reserve powers, and may also play an important political role. The United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms are all constitutional monarchies in the Westminster system of constitutional governance. Two constitutional monarchies – Malaysia and Cambodia – are elective monarchies, wherein the ruler is periodically selected by a small electoral college.

21. A Union Without Power

47:05
The American Revolution (HIST 116) In this lecture, Professor Freeman discusses the Articles of Confederation. Although they seem hopelessly weak in the long view of history, the Articles made perfect sense as a first stab at a national government by a people who deeply distrusted centralized power - a direct product of their recent experience of the British monarchy. Among the many issues that complicated the drafting of the Articles, three central issues included: how war debts to European nations would be divided among the states; whether western territories should be sold by the national government to pay for those debts; and how large and small states would compromise on representation. When a series of events - like Shays' Rebellion - highlighted the weaknesses of the Articles, some Americans felt ready to consider a stronger national government. 00:00 - Chapter 1. Monarchs of Great Britain & the British Empire (Part Three) 1707-2011

01:21
Under the Georgian Era, the British Empire flourished. Britain's traditional enemy, France, under the dictatorship of Napoleon Bonaparte, tried to launch an invasion of the isles but Horatio Nelson, the greatest Admiral of all time, destroyed the Franco/Spanish fleet, albiet at the cost of his own life. The Duke of Wellington defeated Bonaparte on the fields of Waterloo, ending an era of war and marking the beginning of Pax Britannia, an century where Britain became the world's superpower, dwarfing every other nation in terms of military and economic might. The empire became the largest in history, where the sun never set, a realm that covered 26% of the Earth's land. Queen Victoria, currently the longest reigning British Monarch, came to represent the spectacular wealth and dominance of her nation across the globe. However, Victoria's death marked the end of Pax Britannia- soon, the world was plunged into the bloodiest war of all time, and Britain was left economically crippled. Instead of recovering, the great depression struck and Britain was no longer the richest country in the world. The country declared war on Nazi Germany with her ally France in 1939. France quickly fell to German Blitzkreig, and Hitler turned his attention to Britain. Through the courage of the RAF, the Luftwaffe was defeated and Hitler could no longer attempt an invasion of Britain. When he invaded Russia, Britain gained the first of her two powerful allies. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour brought America into the war, and unable to cope with huge losses on the eastern front along with invasion from the west, Germany lost the war. Britain emerged victorious, but her powers were exhausted considerably. The radical new government lead by Clement Attlee quickly granted India independance from the empire, the beginning of the end of the colonial era. Under Elizabeth II, Britain is no longer a super power, but remains the 5th largest economy in the world, the fourth largest military budget, and a key proponant of democracy, free speech and free trade, values echoed in the commonwealth of nations.

This video uses Google TTS en-US-Standard-D voice. SUMMARY ======= The monarchy of Fiji arose in the mid-nineteenth century when native ruler Seru Epenisa Cakobau consolidated control of the Fijian Islands and declared himself King or paramount chief of Fiji (Fijian: Tui Viti). In 1874, he voluntarily ceded sovereignty of the islands to Britain, which made Fiji a Crown colony within the British Empire. After nearly a century of British rule, Fiji became a Dominion, an independent sovereign state within the Commonwealth of Nations with Elizabeth II as head of state. After a second military coup in 1987, Fiji became a republic, and the monarchy was ended. Nevertheless, the Great Council of Chiefs recognised Elizabeth II as Tui Viti or the traditional Queen of Fiji, but the position is not one of a constitutional, or otherwise legal nature. The Great Council of Chiefs was disestablished in 2012 by decree. Elizabeth II does not use the title, and the Fijian government does not recognise it.
