Don't Get Caught - My year as an Exchange Student in Copenhagen

15:32
Woah what a year; causing trouble, travelling the world and enjoying life in the best city in the world; Copenhagen, Denmark. Its home to nice people, great beer, beautiful girls and a ton of memories, so here is a little glimpse of my year as Rotary exchange student in Copenhagen. Starting on the 16th January 2013 I decided to take 5 seconds of film everyday for a year, I found some days were a lot more interesting than others so here's a little film with just the interesting parts! Being part of the Rotary Exchange Program has at sometimes been challenging as it is mandatory to abide to the four rules (no drinking, driving, drugs or dating) however through good conscious I haven't broken a single one... Probably because I decided to add a 5th rule - "Don't get caught" Thanks to everyone who has made this year unforgettable, I have travelled to so many countries, learnt a lot (apart from how to speak Danish properly haha) met so many cool people, made heaps of awesome friends and have three new families. Everything shot on my iPhone, GoPro Hero 3 and 550D Hope you enjoy the film!

My Life as an Exchange Student in Sweden

05:13
SUBSCRIBE FOR ENDLESS ADVENTURE! ► http://tinyurl.com/jex7qkn 20 years ago, I arrived in Sweden as a wide eyed 18 year old. This was my first major travel experience, and I was scared out of my mind. I'd never been away from home, and I certainly didn't speak any Swedish. Right away however, I was in good hands. I couldn't have asked for better host families, friends and school. My year abroad opened my eyes to a world outside of Boulder, and I loved every second of my experience. Jag Älskar Sverige! **People have been asking about where I lived--in a little town called Svedala, and I went to school in Malmö. 5 Tips for Exchange Students Coming to Sweden

05:37
5 Tips for Exchange Students Coming to Sweden: 1. Swedes usually don't wear shoes indoors. 2. Try to get a lot of sun during spring and summer to avoid seasonal depression. 3. Recycling is common in Sweden and I recommend you ask your host family how to do it if they don't tell you. 4. Sweden is not a liberal country when it comes to drugs and if you get caught doing drugs you could get in trouble. 5. People in Sweden like to "fika", which means we drink coffee or tea or something like that together with friends and family.

Study Abroad In France: A Nightmare

07:37
Hello Stalkers, Today I am sharing my experience as an exchange student in France, which was a nightmare. PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING 1 – Bigotry is not biased against one’s nationality. You can find them everywhere. However, knowing about ethnocentrism and experiencing it are two different things. In my mind I knew it might be a problem. I didn’t think it was going to be a problem on a daily basis. 2 – It isn’t all Sunshine and rainbow. There are times that I thought very dark thoughts about France, which was very abnormal for me. When I talked to others about it, I was told that it wasn’t normal, and that I wasn’t trying or focusing on the positive. Fact is studying/living abroad is difficult. There will be times you love it, and there will be times where you hate it. Hating your host country is normal and anyone who tells you differently is talking out of their butt. 3 – I’m biased when it comes to French schools since I only attended 1 high school, and I thought it was horrible. My teachers regularly started class by telling us we were lazy, stupid and nothing. I’ve talked about this with other French people and have learned that unfortunately this is a norm in French school. I also understand that the school system is meant to weed out weakness. However, from my perspective what the teachers are doing is mental and emotional abuse since as far as I know all scientific studies have shown negative reinforcement doesn’t work. My teachers weren’t teachers, they were public speakers. They refused to answer questions or explain anything because they had a lesson plan to get through. Every French student I knew had a tutor. Which made no sense to me. Since students were paid to teach younger students and the teachers got paid to do nothing. My school also offered zero support with anything no matter what the problem. I had some student bothering me, and not their problem. Our French lit teach came to school drunk, and not their problem. She stopped coming and it took them a trimester to replace her. 4 – Language. I had 3 years of French, which proved useless since the French I learned and what was spoken was different. E.G. “ne” is often dropped and words are shortened to the point of being unrecognizable. This can be an issue no matter what language you know. I never learned about the Literary tenses, because they “aren’t used often in French” which is the biggest lie ever! All my text books used them, and if you wrote essays you were supposed to use them. I asked my teachers if could write in the passe compose instead, and they just told me not to bother with the homework and test. Even though I did them they wouldn’t grade them. Unfortunately, older French people are particular about their language. It isn’t just against foreigners, it is against other French people as well. I had very few issues with people my own age. They were more than willing to speak slowly and say all the letters, they’d correct my French work books and explain why. I never had that with adults. Their response was I had no business in France because I didn’t already know the culture or language. 5 – France is a big place. While I meet a lot of tools on my first trip to France. I knew there were good people. My host family for example are the greatest and kindest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. They welcomed me into their home and treated me like I was their own daughter. To this day they are still Mama and Papa and are now Meme and Pepe to my children. However, that year was overshadowed by all the horrible people. 6 – This isn’t a French problem this is a person problem. I am not sharing this to Bash France. I went back to France, and the second time was completely different. I lived there for 10 years, and it became my home. However, there is a difference between being a citizen and foreigner. It doesn’t matter where you go, this will exist. Perhaps it won’t be as bad in one place than in others, but it is still there. If after all this I have offended you, then I am probably talking about you, and you are the problem. KOREA UNIVERSITY EXCHANGE STUDENT: Day in the Life 고려대학교 교환학생의 일상 | 'ROUND KU #1

12:29
Welcome to my channel! I decided to film this Day in the Life of a Korea University student video to help future international/exchange students to get a glimpse of what a typical day would look like for a Korea University student. I am currently on exchange for this Spring 2017 semester from the NY, USA. As I mentioned, every day differs so much because there is always so much to do in Korea. I highly recommend applying to study abroad at Korea University because it will definitely be a time you won’t forget. !!!FAQ!!!! (Compiled from questions incoming students have contacted & asked me! If you have a question that's not here COMMENT on the video!) 1. Where do you live? I lived in Allive Goshitel near business side of campus. I paid 550,000W/month + 50,000 deposit. I would recommend this place if you are a business student/have a lot of classes on the business side of campus because of it's location. However, it is far from the busy side of campus (near Anam Station). It is about a 10-15 minute walk from there or two stops on a bus (101, 7211). 2. What are you studying? What semester are you in? I am a business major (KU doesn't have concentrations but in my home school I concentrate in marketing). I am in my fourth semester- second year, second semester. However, in Korea SPRING is the first semester and FALL is the second. 3. What is the process for applying? Please contact your home university and ask if they have a program WITH Korea University. I applied through my home university so unless you go to Binghamton University I can't specifically help you out on that sorry :( 4. What was the course registration process like? Course registration was very very harsh for a lot of exchange students and it's usually harsh for even native students here. It's very competitive and seats go fast but I personally got all the courses I wanted. Before the registration period starts your KU advisor will send you an email with all the things you need to know so don't worry! I registered for classes back when I was still home so I had to make sure I got the time exchange right. Even if you don't get the course you want, you can always wait for orientation/couple days before the semester starts because courses fluctuate in capacity for the first week or so of classes. Don't worry-- on orientation day they will give you a detailed booklet of the steps you need to register for classes! 5. What are the schedules like? Is it possible to put all your classes in two days? The schedules vary like a normal university and usually are MWF or T/Th like most schools. 6. Is it difficult to get a dorm room? Are goshitels more expensive than dorm rooms? My goshitel was more expensive than dorm rooms but by very little. I believe CJ is 2,000,000 won for 4 months (comes down to less than $500 a month). Also, my study abroad advisor told me that KUBS exchange students from my school NEVER get a place in CJ so I knew I had to find off-campus housing on my own before arrival. 7. Do the dorms have a kitchen? Or is it simply buy from dining halls/restaurants? Is there a meal plan? I think dorms have small kitchens. No meal plans but the food is very cheap in caf/around school. YOU WILL NOT STARVE! Don't worry LOL 8. Do they provide bedding, pillows, duvets at the university? At CJ it is 20,000W to rent. 9. How’s the buddy system? I really enjoyed it because it allowed us to get comfortable with the school. They have many events/lunches/dinners together. 10. Do you feel that Korea University has a lot of student events on campus? At the beginning of the spring semester there was a club fair & a school-wide cheering event/concert called Ipselenti. We had performers like TWICE, Hweesung, BeWhy. In the fall semester there's also a small club fair and also a HUGE event called the Kor-Yon Games (Korea Uni VS Yonsei) which is a sporting match/cheering event also with many famous performers! I heard it's LIIITTT!!! KU treats their exchange students very well with an established buddy system-- your Katalk group chat amongst your group will always be buzzing with people willing to hang out & go on adventures together! Everyone is open to making new friends :) 11. What’s around the university? What’s the neighborhood like? For starters, buses & trains run from the university to anywhere in Korea really so you will not be deserted. It is not as crowded as like Hongdae or Seoul Station and Anam is an area that not many people go to unless they live there. But however, there is this road (the one I walk through in the video) that has the most "life." There's coin noraebangs (karaoke), chicken joints, roadshop makeup, convenience stores, restaurants, etc.. Thanks for watching and please feel free to comment any questions/comments down below!
